They mobilized rather quickly to support Spain in some aspects.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
24:18
So, you know, In border management, human security and counter-terrorism, they're all interconnected.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
24:25
I mean, they're treated separately, but in situations like that, they're interconnected.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
24:30
That doesn't mean that if one side fails, the other one is put under pressure, like what happened with the 15 individuals, but that doesn't mean that they absolutely collapse.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
27:55
And let me be clear, what I mean by proactive is not suddenly imagining that 80,000 people are going to cross the border and you need to be constantly prepared, but that kind of migratory pressure.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
28:05
That's not what I'm saying.
Juncal Fernández GarayzábalGUEST
28:08
But I mean, a lesson, at least one of the key lessons that... that i learned from from this research is that european systems need to become more adaptive i mean they need to understand that relationship between areas policy areas that are oftentimes treated as independence in this case border management human security human rights migration and asylum and counter-terrorism that can be all put under pressure at once and you know create a system that actually is able to adapt and cascade rather than being reactive to these kind of crises because each i mean crises are going to happen the nature of the crisis is going to vary the extent of the crisis is going to vary and therefore one cannot be absolutely prepared for absolutely every scenario possible but rather the system needs to to understand what the systems are how they relate to each other how they relate to third parties that are indispensable for the european union working together and making it effective to then actually be able to adapt, not as reaction, but as an adaptation.

Dana El KurdHOST

And she's also a nonresident fellow at the Arab Center Washington, where I'm also a, a nonresident fellow.
Dana El KurdHOST

And she's been doing a lot of excellent work highlighting the health impacts of Israeli policies and American policies, uh, in the Middle East generally, but also particularly in Israel-Palestine.
Jerome SauvageGUEST
38:41
So this what I call the need to support internal change, need to support those people inside the North Korean government who want to bring change.
Jerome SauvageGUEST
38:52
Um, so at the end, I just bring that question, is a different kind of engagement towards the DPRK possible, emphasizing not denuclearization, but perhaps nuclear risk reduction and allowing for broader dialogue on human security for all people, including human development and human right, that continuum from development to, uh, to, um, to human rights eventually as, as an approach.
Jerome SauvageGUEST
39:21
And, uh, some of my friends here are, are, are involved in, in, in that discussion, which is very interesting.
Jerome SauvageGUEST
39:27
So I just, at the end of the book, I just sort of bring it up, uh, because I think that's what engagement takes.
