In today's episode, we are putting two major talking topics up against each other.

Human intelligence versus AI, artificial intelligence.

Well, it's not really versus, it's more exploring our relationship.

In today's episode, I'm joined by two wonderful guests.

I have Hazel Harrison.

In terms of, so projects are high.

It's high because it's not a nicer wavy person.

What does that mean? And I think the better question is, what does that mean as a Catholic? Because as Pope Leo and the church repeatedly states, there is not a super intelligence to AI and there's no...

fear that there will be one how it could be used and by whom is a concern so we'll touch a little bit on intelligence and what human intelligence intelligence is in the great catholic tradition and how we apply it in discussing ai today more on that in a little bit along with this great feast day of The exaltation of the cross of Christ.

The church is so wise.

I don't know about you, but we're in September.

with the adoption of AI.

So Pope Leo here is addressing specifically this, this concern over AI, the human capabilities.

He says these systems merely imitate certain functions of human intelligence.

Don't get ahead of the Pope.

And Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called on artificial intelligence firms to slow down the development of the powerful technology amid mounting worries over the risks of super-intelligent computer systems.

Super-intelligence is the theoretical point when AI's capabilities exceed human intelligence.

His comments came a few days after AI researcher Jacob Coxon, who spent the past three years pre-training AI models, decided to leave the industry, accusing both U.S. companies of gambling with people's lives.

Open AI boss Sam Altman and Elon Musk, who owns XAI, have meanwhile quickly chimed in to say they agree with Amodei's assessment as pressure builds for improved oversight.

What is, given the uniqueness of this time in history, what's happening with CEOs, with business, world economy, all of these things, What do you feel like is really separating leaders who are thriving right now from those who are really struggling?

I think those who are really thriving don't look at AI differently to HIV, HIV and human intelligence.

They see them both as assets.

Both can be deployed to drive growth and profitability.

That's happened more times than you would think.

And that only happens when you add sort of this human intelligence layer to it.

So if you're looking at it from just a defender and I'm just trying to stop this attack that I'm seeing take place today, That is a different conversation than how do we stop ransomware as a whole or how do we stop this group that's a long term problem for my organization? And that's where understanding the people comes in involved.

Also, one more short example that I think people will help resonate with people understanding.

I do it a little bit differently, but that's a different story.

But the way that most organizations smart way to do it is with a sock puppet and you build these relationships up over time.

But regardless of how you do it, when you take human intelligence value and you add that on top of your layers of data, the evidence that that shows that tells its story.

you're gonna see some information gaps.

And mathematically speaking, scientifically speaking, HI will be far superior even in 50 years to AI.

H.I. is human intelligence.

Yes, absolutely.

And you also said that the big word helps with the police force.

Nine times out of 10, I will trust the map over the individual.

I've become obsessed with kind of human intelligence and like human pattern intelligence.

And everyone's talking about AI and that kind of intelligence when really it should be about the human intelligence and the interaction of human intelligence with the artificial intelligence.

And if now is the time to really lean into human intelligence and understanding that in a truly custom, unique way.

Every individual, every single circumstance, every single moment is unique and different.

So we need to get really, really skilled at understanding the complexity and the dynamics of an individual at a moment in time in a different, in a specific circumstance to handle that.

Totally different.

But that's, that's why communication I think is one of the pillars for human intelligence, meaning I would lean into becoming a better communicator just like I would learn, lean into the work we do in terms of being able to adapt, uh, faster.

So is leaning-

Like cog- cogn- cognitive flexibility.

Think about that like AI, that race car, but it's the driver that determines that performance.

Mm-hmm.

And so, you know, I'm a big advocate for human intelligence, and I ask, I'm actually very hopeful.

Like it, it's gonna go one of two ways, and I'm hoping ins- instead of it just the, the, the bad things that you see on online and in movies, I feel like it, it could force us to become more human.

So, Laura, I'm going to come to you now.

And you and I were talking earlier about the importance of human intelligence, in other words, critical thinking, and how that links into kind of using the technology, et cetera.

Just talk to me a little bit from your perspective and WWC's perspective on that, would you?

Yeah, it's been really interesting and I think exciting.

If you're racing cars as an F1 driver, are you thinking about dry cleaning? Are your mind wandering? You know, are you trying to do anything else? No, you're focused on the act of driving, you're focused on what's in front of you.

So faster readers are like that race car driver because they're skilled, they have strong human intelligence, they're reading with that pace.

If you don't give your brain the stimulus it needs, it'll seek entertainment elsewhere in the form of distraction.

Yeah.

If you bring clarity, it's gonna magnify that.

Yeah.

But it magnifies your own human intelligence.

My co-concern, though, is if we're so dependent on AI, then I don't want human intelligence to be artificial, right? So questions would be, whether it's fiction or nonfiction, w- I mean, when you're reading and getting, you wanna get through it more, is the fact that you love it, you, you express interest, you have a natural curiosity.
