Huldah

We all know of Deborah, one of the judges.

We know of Huldah.

We know of the wife of Isaiah in Isaiah 8, verse 3.

We know of Anna the prophetess in the New Testament.

If you look back at the prophets, they were men and women.

Uh, you've got women in the Old Testament like Deborah and Huldah and Miriam.

You've got prophets.

You've got men like Isaiah and Jeremiah and Moses and so on.

If it doesn't have, uh, thousands of days in prophetic speak, then some people are not even interested, and it's un- it's a shame.

It's a shame because God gave us special wisdom in our faith community, our faith fellowship, on the two books of, uh, the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation, not only them, but in a special way in those places, not so we could lose Christ, not so it could be like in the days of Josiah and Huldah, the prophetess, when the people of God had lost and buried the books of the law.

Like God is not saying that we should be burying the gospel of Jesus Christ in the prophecies of the last days.

We shouldn't have to figure out where is Jesus in this.

Not even one.

There's no hint of it, okay? So i-if, uh, short of that, what you are reading here, you gotta trust, not because I said so, but because Jesus affirms that this book is also of the, of what's called the word of God, okay? So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, uh, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, the keeper of the wardrobe.

Note, these details show this is a historical narrative.

Uh, that's exactly what's, what we have here because note, we know, we know someone's name, who their f-father was, who their grandfather was, different, uh, th-- like, neighborhoods in Jerusalem and things like this.

This is all historical narrative.

This isn't a myth, okay? And so they talked with Huldah, and she said to them, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Tell the man who sent you to me.

Thus says Yahweh, "Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read, because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands.

Therefore, my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched."'" Which is exactly what happened.

In the temple, which always gives me a little chuckle, a little bit like finding your glasses on your head.

And then they send a delegation to Huldah, the prophet, to determine, is this really the book of the law? And she says, this is what the Lord says.

Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord, and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, because of your repentant posture, I have heard you, declares the Lord.

Elijah doesn't have his own book, but he was a prophet.

Um, like you said, Deborah and Miriam and Huldah were prophetesses, and don't have their own books.

When we talk about Nevi'im in the Hebrew Bible, we're talking about Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel are called the major prophets, and then you have 12 minor prophets starting from the longest one down to the end, which is Malachi.

There's a line in the Come Follow Me manual that I love, and it says, quote, "But reading a chapter from Isaiah or Ezekiel might feel different from reading a general conference message from the current president of the Church."

The people missed it because they didn't obey.

And I also used Josiah and Huldah the prophetess as an example of this.

And also I used Paul where he prophesied that all of the people in the ship would live.

And yet some of them started to escape into this little lifeboat.

That would be verse 21.

So Hilkiah sends to a prophetess And the prophetess is named Huldah.

Huldah gives basically a word that is very sober.

Yes, all of this disaster is going to come.

My wrath will be poured out.

It will not be quenched.

But then there is a sweetness to Huldah's report back to the king.

Verse 26, but to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus you shall say to him, thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, regarding the words that you have heard, because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and you have torn your clothes and wept before me.
