Hsiao Bi-khim

Now to cross-strait developments.

Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said in a Sky News interview aired ahead of this week's summit between President Trump and President Xi Jinping that it is Beijing, not Taiwan, that has been acting provocatively.

She said Taiwan will never provoke but will never retreat at the cost of its basic freedoms and democracy.

She said American officials have repeatedly reaffirmed that Washington's policy toward Taiwan is unchanged, while acknowledging that Taiwan's self-defense resources are not yet sufficient.

After a visit to the island of Ventotene in Italy, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim arrived safely back in Taiwan in the early hours of Monday.

With my visit, I wanted to send a strong message.

No matter the difficult situation we may be in, Taiwan will continue to walk alongside the world.
