And then later, this idea stemmed from this same interaction trying to get the rights.

He was looking at the William Castle horror movies like House on Haunted Hill, which is like horror with like a gimmicky shit happening in the theater.

He thought, I could do real horror and I could probably do it better.

So he turned that idea into Psycho.

The classic movie gimmicks, especially William Castle, I mean, the tingler, the seats used to vibrate.

House on Haunted Hill, which is one of my all-time favorites, he had a skeleton that would come down into the theaters at a certain point.

Into the theater.

And then...

Like, you know, probably, like, the furthest back I've gone is, you know, like, Psycho, which is, like, before this, the oldest movie that we've covered on the podcast.

But even, like, the original House on Haunted Hill, which was in the 50s.

And I think, like, the original House of, not the original House of Wax, but the Vincent Price House of Wax was also in the 50s.

Well, I recognized immediately the cook in this movie, Mrs. Oates.

And when William Castle appears on screen to ask people to vote, thumbs up to let him get away with it or thumbs down for him to be punished.

Max also saw House on Haunted Hill, complete with the skeleton that comes floating over the audience.

Wow, Max, such great memories of movie theaters and how they used to be.

You're very fortunate to have experienced that in person.

But the first, I'd say the first actual horror film I ever watched, I was probably five as well, and it was Bride of Frankenstein.

But I think the first film that really, I actually had my first favorite actor and the first real favorite horror film was House on Haunted Hill, which I probably watched when I was six or seven and that gave me nightmares.

Yeah.

And this is the original one with Vincent Price.

I thought about doing like a... could give you a movie where people get paid to do something but i figured haunted houses was the way to go so

yeah this is and i think this was a great little yeah feat right here so uh my pick for this week was the original house on haunted hill from 1959 directed by the great william castle uh 75 minutes nice quick watch uh the tagline is consult your doctor bring your seat belt And the description is Frederick Lauren invites five strangers to the party of a lifetime and offers each of them $10,000 if they can stay the night in the reportedly haunted house.

Armed with a gun for protection, each guest arrives in a hearse and will either leave in it much richer or dead.

Yeah, there you go.

And I was surprised by that, but I just, like I said, it just sort of felt like tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich to me.

variety i think it's amazing that you say that because that is like my relationship to this movie like this is totally a vibe movie for me where it's just like put it on uh it's a great like background movie it's great for if just like atmosphere of like i need to chill out watch something that's an easy quick watch i've seen before house on haunted hill perfect

And that fucking old woman scare is so good.
