Hotel del Coronado

So, oh, this is my band.

We are playing at the Hotel Del Coronado for the second year in a row on the 22nd of September.

That's me back here.

You know, they always put the keyboard is they hide us, you know, the drummer, too.

But they would do other things, not just with cold water exposure, a tactic that, that they use multiple times that I remember seeing guys quit because of this one thing, which was, you know, we would go on a long conditioning run.

And when you go out the the kind of gate of the buds training compound, there's these huge burns and there's a kind of opening uh in the berm right by the gate that you go out and so you can go out through this opening and go either to the left south towards imperial beach or to the right north towards coronado and in the hotel del coronado and naval air station north island so it's miles long of beach and so they would go and let's say you go left you run down several miles you turn around you come back well everybody's expecting to go back into the compound at that opening And on a regular basis, they would not go back in the opening and they would just go north.

Something that simple would make guys quit because they thought, OK, the run is done.

We're going in.

We got a little saying, "Everyone wants to be a frog man on a sunny day," and that is the absolute truth.

Go down to Coronado on a Friday, 10 o'clock in the morning.

Some guy's out on the beach doing a beach run, a frog man.

It's sunny.

They're getting a tan.

The girls on the beach.

Coronado.

This is the Hotel del Coronado.

Um, I ended up being really drawn to, you know, who, who are people who are, are truly people that we can, we can dive in a little bit, even if they're enigmas.

Like in the case of the beautiful stranger, which is, uh, um, the, um, Kate Morgan case out in, uh, the Hotel del Coronado, um, also in California.

And, um, she was this stranger who was living sort of a, a double life, um, that didn't really get un- uh, uncovered until after her passing.

And, um, so this, uh, you know, the, if there was an intrigue about who their real lives were, then that was really helpful because we're not necessarily only talking about ghosts.

Uh, it was, it was really hard.

I just kept going, "Do, do I hug this person? Do I, do I shake their hand?" Like the- these are questions that you just never think about until it's time, and it's really weird because I had set it up, as you do, a very, one of the most intimate moments you'll ever have, in the middle of the Hotel Coronado bar.

Um, I was like-

[laughs] That was the location-

[laughs]

And they said yes, and so I s- set up the place.

It's the Hotel Coronado.

An hour before I'm freaking out.

And the resort was inspired by the grand hotels that once lined Florida's coastline during like the late 1800s, early 1900s.

So if you have ever seen Hotel Del Coronado in California...

Like the coloring is spot on.

It's also inspired by like the Palm Beach hotels, Victorian seaside resorts.

So once the deal was signed, production took place in late 1958.

The Florida exteriors were filmed on location around the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, but everything else was shot in Samuel Goldwyn Studios in West Hollywood.

Ted Haworth was the art director and sets had to be created for Mozzarella's Funeral Parlor, the talent agency offices, the train interiors, and also the Florida hotel interiors.

Yeah, the production design's great.

Not at all.

And as well as the sets, some of the train interiors were filmed on a real Pullman sleeper train called The Clover Colony, and that's now on display in the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

And the hotel interiors, they were based on the interiors of the Hotel Del Coronado.

That is still there and running, and they trade on the Some Like It Hot connection in their marketing.

are earning half a million dollars they are living out big lives at luxury five-star hotels why is the california nurses association spending 140 000 at the four seasons in toronto canada i really couldn't tell you or 180 grand at the hotel del coronado in san diego that five-star resort on the beach what are they doing there i couldn't tell you can because a lot of them did not respond to our request for comment.

But we have this cycle, again, where the unions have control over the politicians who are then giving them more money and more members.

And there seems to be no way to stop this cycle because it looks like we're at this sort of tipping point where either we've passed it or about to pass it, where the majority of voters either are getting paid by the government by working in the public sector or a public supported industry like maybe healthcare or education or receive taxpayer benefits from the government or work directly at the government.

Well, you know, they did spend some good money in California.

They spent $180,000 at the Hotel del Coronado, that five-star resort in San Diego, right on the ocean.

$70,000 at this wonderful resort called the Claremont in Berkeley.

Um, and they even spent another $65,000 in Oceanfront Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos, which is also in California.
