Hosanna

It's not salvation in the metaphysical sense, but salvation in the very physical sense of having the abundance that we need.

So we do what are called Hoshanot during the days of Sukkot, which we take our lulav and our etrog, and we walk in a circle around the bima and say, Hoshanana, Hoshana, right? Save us, save us.

And we sing it over and over.

You might remember it.

And then Chol HaMoed is the remaining five days, three, four, five, six, seven.

In Israel, there are six days of Chol HaMoed because there's only one day of Yom Tov.

And each of those days, there are Hoshanot that are said leading up to Hoshana Rabbah, which is day seven.

Now what's interesting about this is unlike Pesach, day seven is not Yom Tov.

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth, pleni sunt celia terra, gloria tua, Hosanna in excelsis, benedictus, qui venit in nomine Domini, Hosanna in excelsis.

You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.

Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they become for us

And if we go into the Dirat Arai, We go out there into nature and say, Kaddosh Baruch Hu, I trust in you completely.

The love and the true love is very different, because we're going to see as the holiday goes on, we start doing these Hoshanot, and then we're going to start circling on Hoshan Araba, we're going to reach this big level where we're actually walking around praying for the fruits and the vegetables, and we're actually starting to pray for the Gashmiyot, and then we're going to get to Shemini Atzeret, and then we're actually going to do the Tefillah for the Geshem.

So it's interesting that on Sukkot, on the first level, we leave our homes and say the Gashmiut, the materialism, it really all comes from G-d. It's not what's important in life.

Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.

Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "'Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!' Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts.

He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

And what do you find in 118? Well, you find a line like this: "Save us, we pray, O Lord." Now you know what that translates to.

Hosanna.

Yeah.

What are they ...

When, when you get to the New Testament and they're waving the palm branches and laying them down in the road for Jesus to come into Jerusalem, what are they yelling?

Hosanna.

They're crying out this psalm.

Hosanna, right? Which means save us.

And many spread their garments in the way and others cut down branches off the trees and strawed them in the way.

They that went before and they that followed cried saying, Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

And I'll just read on to verse number 11 and 12.

And Jesus entered into Jerusalem and into the temple.

Number three now, notice the presentation of the king.

The presentation of the king in verse 8 through 10 says, And many spread their garments in the way and others cut down branches off the trees and strawed them in the way.

Save us, Lord, please save us.

Hosanna, hosanna.

Verse 26, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

We bless you from the house of the Lord.

But he was strong, and through the Lord, the Lord helped him, verse 13.

And then just even this triumphal entry comes through here, verse 25.

Hosanna, save us, O Lord, because blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

And he's coming in, and he's going to be rejected by the builders.

It's often said in churches during Passover week or around Easter.

Hosanna to the son of David.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.

That's what's quoted here in Luke 19, 38.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna.

Let me tell you how that reads in Hebrew.

And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.

And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple.

And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

This is the word of the Lord.

He himself didn't even ride a horse.

This king humbly entered the city upon a donkey surrounded by peasants, the marginalized, and the powerless.

Then this crowd, an eclectic group of unlikely followers, cried out in worship, "'Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'" This was the triumphal entry of Jesus.

Jesus's procession stood in contrast to the procession of Pilate.
