but they're all put together.

So I find it a really fascinating class to see not only the transition of these horses from racehorse into riding horse into a show horse, showing horses at the highest level of showing, but also putting all of these wonderful horses together and seeing the variety of them and how they come forward and how they've changed and how they've developed in In previous episodes, we had Becky Court on.

She had Beware Chalk Pit, who did, well, he won not only the racehorse riding horse class, but he also won the riding horse class as well as a kind of what you might call straight horse.

We have also had Katie Dashwood with the fabulous Manila Rebellion.

She is so honest.

She's so straightforward and she's very open in the journey that she's been on.

And I think it is so relatable for all of us, whether or not we have just got a former racehorse Whether we are trying to stay on the former racehorse, whether we're trying to hack safely, the story is not just about having a horse to produce into being a show horse.

This is about the full journey that we go on and how we have to navigate these not so straightforward times and how we keep moving forward and how we still keep finding the joy with producing these horses.

And we were so happy for her.

I love that story.

And it really speaks to something I hear a lot at the horse shows is people like, well, the judges have made their mind up.

They just don't like my horse.

And they feel like if they have those couple patterns that don't go their way early on, or maybe in the rail class, their horse breaks gate, they feel like what's the point in showing the rest of the show? And I think you think differently on that.

Um, we have a lot of things to cover on this episode today, a lot of topics.

One of them being the miniature horse show that we went to, the other being y'all finally laid down your patterns, and I wanna get your thoughts and feelings-

... um, in preparation for our horse show.

[lip smack] And then just, like, I guess a little, little life catch-up for everyone, honestly.

Um, some of us faced our fears [chuckles] this week.

[laughs] Was it glint? Was it a small tear, just-

Because there are so many options, we end up going so many weeks in a row to accommodate all of the client's needs.

Whereas if there were just a few less options, people would actually have to kind of plan their schedule around the horse shows as opposed to, oh, well, just when we have a free weekend, we'll go to a horse show.

Yeah, but I think from a participant standpoint, a student standpoint, an owner standpoint, it's great because there's so many options.

You could show on a small circuit.

I think, you know, when it comes to things like, and we talk about accessibility, having a variety and they're all different price points really is such a good thing because it allows for...

many, in my opinion, many more clients to be able to show.

Let's define the different types of horse shows that we have available to us.

I went to the California Championships, the Quarter Horse Show, last weekend.

I looked around the rink.

So what actually helps riders do better at horse shows? If you want to do better at horse shows, the answer is not only to ride more.

Of course your riding matters, of course having your horse prepared matters, and of course the work at home matters.

But for the rider who already knows that and is still not showing up the same way in the pen, the missing piece is internal.

And they're going to put it on for the first time at the horse

"'I was there every night it was open.

"'I go to all the shows—horse, dog, baby, flower, electrical.

"'Of course I know that the four-legged beast "'that goes when you say giddy-up is a horse, "'but beyond that my equine education has been neglected.

"'I can see all the horses I want to look at on the street anyhow.' Then what in thunder do you go to the horse show for? demanded the bibliomaniac.

I'm sure from her perspective, it's a little bit more stress and running around.

But, you know, I really do enjoy going to the horse shows.
