Compositionally, the phrasing as to how she sings, the control, the, like, it's just...

And this, this orchestra music that's on Vespertine, on Homogenic, um, that, it's just some of the best writing I've ever heard, and it's, and it, it, it's like, um, def- for me, like, it's a big defining p- I mean, the reasons why I like to work with orchestras and, and write with that, um, with a symphony as an instrument, it's like, you know, it's just such a cool, incredible, dynamic, colorful instrument as a whole to play with.
Taylor EigstiGUEST

But growing up, I was, I would go see Dave, uh, David Benoit do shows with San Francisco Symphony and things like that, and I would just be like, "Whoa, this is just like, this combination of...
Taylor EigstiGUEST
32:27
That texture is so incredible," and all of that.

Addressing the intense distress caused by the incident, Björk later said, "I was very upset that somebody had passed away.
Adam ReaderHOST
8:31
I couldn't sleep for a week after, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't scare the F out of me, that I could get hurt, and most of all, that my son could have gotten hurt." Björk processed the trauma of the stalker's crisis by channeling her emotions into her 1997 studio album, Homogenic.
Adam ReaderHOST
8:46
The record featured an emotionally intense sound that won critical acclaim, and it really showed her capacity to transform personal pain into landmark art.
Adam ReaderHOST
8:54
Great album.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
76:04
So not good
Steve MurphyHOST
76:04
... it's not as high as Homogenic.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
76:07
Not good enough.
Steve MurphyHOST
76:08
Stop, I hate that you always insist on saying that.
Steve MurphyHOST
76:16
Oh, yeah.
Steve MurphyHOST
76:18
Fine.
Steve MurphyHOST
76:19
Um, yeah, I'm fine with giving this below Homogenic.
Steve MurphyHOST
76:24
I think I'll give it a s- I think I'll give it a six.
DannyHOST
13:55
I, Post- I was a massive fan of Post.
DannyHOST
13:58
I was a big fan of, uh, Homogenic.
SimonHOST
14:01
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
DannyHOST
14:02
Is that the third one? Yeah.
SimonHOST
15:12
I don't think I've listened to it in a long, long time.
DannyHOST
15:15
No, well, I haven't.
DannyHOST
15:16
Um, and by listening to this, I've gone back to Homogenic, so I wanna pick up a, a version of that.
DannyHOST
15:21
But again, reissues feel real slight, so I'm looking to see if there's a, a decent sort of special pressing of it along the line somewhere.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
5:45
We mentioned this potentially briefly last week, but as we know, in order to get through a very difficult period of her life and record homogenic, Björk envisions herself as another person.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
5:58
In that case, it was the protagonist in a dramatic soap opera.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:01
It's interesting to me that she seems eager to continue that process of embodying somebody who is not her, right? It's almost like she's been playing a character since she started recording Homogenic.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:16
Since the attempted murder, essentially.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:18
She's slipped into extensive character work that Alex Turner would be jealous of, you know? Sure.

5 MINS LATER

Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
11:39
Of course.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
11:39
It's produced by Björk and Mark Bell.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
11:42
Mark Bell we know because he's the main producer, quote unquote, on Homogenic.
DeanHOST
4:15
And then I – yeah, and Vespertine was like a very, very out there album.
DeanHOST
4:22
I guess not as much as Homogenic but still like I got into Vespertine.
DeanHOST
4:27
It was just a really good album, really different.
DeanHOST
4:32
And then from there I sort of backtracked and listened to everything else.
DeanHOST
5:57
Or even like hip-hop beats as well.
DeanHOST
5:59
There were a few ones.
TristanHOST
6:00
Yeah, for me, when I go back to listen to Björk, I'm going back to, yeah, like Homogenic and that sort of thing.
TristanHOST
6:05
Definitely Vespertine.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
5:59
Go ahead.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:01
She released Homogenic, I suppose, in response to an increasingly invasive press and also nearly being murdered.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:09
She heads to Spain to record her third album and she releases Homogenic in September 1997 and she tours it all over the world.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:17
Wrapping it up in Reykjavik in January 1999.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
6:23
We're nearly at the millennium.

19 MINS LATER

Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
25:54
I think she's talking like Björk.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
25:55
And actually there's a decent argument.
Adam Scott GlasspoolHOST
25:58
And I think Peter Stormare, who is also excellent, Peter Stormare and Catherine Deneuve have both said that it didn't really feel like Björk was acting it felt like she was feeling like it was a purely emotional task for her as though her and Selma were inseparable which I think is really interesting because Björk is playing somebody who over the course of the movie is like psychologically and physically abused and And that's kind of the space that Björk had been in going into Homogenic.
