Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

Actress Shin Min-a opened up about her twenty-five-year journey in the industry during a special Actor's House session at the Busan International Film Festival, and her message was simple: she still wants to keep running.

Known as the queen of romantic comedies, thanks to hits like Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox, Shin Min-a has quietly built a career that refuses to stay in one lane, jumping from the chilling thriller Pupil to the fantasy period drama The Remarried Empress on Disney+.

She shared that she first stepped in front of cameras as a middle school model before transitioning into acting with Volcano High and Beautiful Days back in 2001, and even now she still feels butterflies trying to figure out how to best express herself on screen.

The actress is famously fearless when it comes to physical challenges, recalling how she overcame her fear of heights to perform diving scenes for the film Diva, saying that getting physically involved in a role makes her feel like she's already halfway into the character.

Yeah, basically the biggest difference is that there isn't as much high stakes in In that it's more like when I when I asked when I when I asked Google to give me examples of dramas that like fit that structure.

It's more like slice of life type things or or there's no like bad guy per se like hometown cha-cha-cha.

Hometown cha-cha-cha was an example of.

And I can see that our blues was an example where it's more you've got your status quo.

You've got just more of your status quo, like just life as it is.

Now, Sunghee, check this out.

Her class was unusually stacked with future stars, including Kim Go-eun from Goblin, Little Women, so many shows, Park So-dam from Parasite, Lim Ji-yeon from The Glory, Lee Sang-yi from Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and Kim Sung-cheol from Do You Like Brahms? An amazing class, right? [laughs]

Oh, yes.

Hospital Playlist was the show that gave An Eun-jin widespread recognition, even though she had been in many other wonderful shows previously, like The Crowned Clown, Kingdom, and Strangers from Hell.

I put down examples as her private life because that's a funny rom-com, but they do have this very dark backstory and you get into that as it goes along.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is the same way.

Dennis goes to the seaside town.

She opens a practice there and meets the town handyman who's jack of all trades and they're different, uh, personalities and different, you know, so that they have their rom-com moments, but then you've got this really difficult background for him.
