Homestar Runner

The only reason I didn't like the harpoon character is I didn't like the big guy.

He looked like Strong Sad from Homestar Runner.

He did, actually.

Yeah, that's a good reference.

I hear you.

There was a Strong Bad joke about that, a Homestar Runner joke.

Was there? Oh, man, now I feel so aligned with Homestar.

The Strong Bad Email technology, I believe.

This is how much of a Strong Bad nerd I am.

I barely remember Dick Tracy, didn't like Final Fantasy, but Homestar Runner and EarthBound, that is your idiom.

Because this student's assignment was to talk to an expert about a subject, research it with them, and come up with answers.

And the subject that they wanted to talk to me about was Homestar Runner.

For the true connoisseur, who really wants all of the exact facts, instead of a generalization, I'll say that they actually wanted to know about Trogdor, the dragon-like creature with one arm that Homestar Runner would make games about.

But in a more general sense, they just wanted to know about Homestar Runner, the creators who were the Chapman brothers, the story of why it was so popular, what the world was like when Homestar Runner had its peak, and what factors led to it and other aspects of it to fade away compared to the modern world.

Shockingly, I had opinions.

When I attended RaffleCon many years ago now, there were intranet celebrities of all sorts, including the Chapman Brothers, or the Brothers Chaps, as they are often called, and I got to watch them speak about what drove them to make Homestar Runner, along with their outlook of what Homestar Runner might be in the future.

Yeah.

This feels more like a Trogdor or something like that, where it's a very adult complexity game dressed up in a way that looks much more childish, but it's not for children.

Okay, so I actually love that you bring in Trogdor for lots of reasons, right? But because Trogdor is something that is designed to be silly and ridiculous and dumb, but also for at least 12-year-olds.

Trogdor is not for 8-year-olds.

Right.

Trogdor is for teenagers.

Right.

And this game should be for teenagers.

A Homestar Runner represent, man.

There's that guy now that goes around to the conventions dressed up in a huge inflatable trognor outfit.

I want to get a picture of that.
