I was at home when I lived, uh, up Beachwood Canyon.

Beachwood Canyon goes up to, uh, the Hollywood Sign.

And Beachwood Canyon and, uh, uh, H- Hollywoodland area, as it- it's called, is there's one way in-

This was the day before the birthday bash.

We met up with Phil in Los Angeles, and we hiked over to the Hollywood sign to go and have a chat with him about this whole ordeal, this whole thing that happened.

I guess to even back up before that, if you go on our Patreon right now, we recorded a... uh time capsule show where we discussed a lot of this this was before anything had happened because we didn't know where it was going to go so i know we talked about it last week that you know phil the artist reached out to us we weren't sure if it was him or not he kind of did verify it was him but going into it there was still a thought of like is this an elaborate plan to we get out there and then they serve us with

so then we you know it ended up working out we met in we met with him and we we did a hike out to the hollywood hills we're out to the hollywood sign i should say and we decided to get his point of view on this whole situation so a little bit more insight from our friend philip the artist

No, that was great.

And so when I get into the how do we actually do it, how do we communicate without cringing? And one of the things you mentioned to me is your Hollywood sign exercise.

Yeah.

Can you tell me a little bit about

what that is? Yes, so I call this the power message.

And whenever I visualise it, I think of it as the Hollywood sign.

So the Hollywood sign is, you know, you can close your eyes and think of, you know exactly what it looks like.

You can see the font, you know, the colour, you know where it is, even if you've never been there.

There's, apparently, there are g- grizzlies in there, but not many.

Have you done the, uh, the Hollywood, the Hollywood Sign hike?

Mm-mm.

Oh.

Absolutely.

Uh, tying that in directly with the iconography of this industry and connecting it directly to the land was, for me, that Hollywood sign, which historically, it's become an icon of sorts for, you know, maybe an American dream.

But the original signage was "Hollywoodland." Uh, "Land" was removed later, like much of the land that was removed from Indigenous people.

And it was an aspect not really talked about about this signage, is that it was erected as a advertisement, real estate advertisement for white-only communities, so segregated.

Uh, and this is...

A crush back in the day into a Hollywood fashion line for a Wyoming native.

He met a Korean girl and somehow like... trademarked the Hollywood sign, like literally the Hollywood sign back in the day.

And then he started making everyone mad because he had the patent and they didn't.

I think he finally gave it up.

I just was not home.

And now that I'm back, my two cats are here trying to disrupt everything on this morning show.

Well, as a young man, Cheyenne native George Weinbarg figured out how to trademark the famous Hollywood sign in LA.

Yeah, he did it because he fell in love with a Korean fashion student and promised to make her line of clothing famous by associating it with the sign.
