The highs on Saturday will stay below average, however, it will jump to 27 on Sunday and finally 32 on Monday.

However, in Hokkaido, we get to feel a sense of autumn.

Leaves have started to change color near the peak of Mount Kurodake in central Hokkaido, signaling the arrival of autumn.

The mountain is known as one of the earliest places in Hokkaido to see fall foliage.

The local visitor center says the recent cold weather quickly brought out the autumn colors.

The seasonal hues are expected to spread to the middle slopes and peak later this month.

For good reason, you need a pretty good background in Japanese history just to follow parts of the plot.

But Noda is from Hokkaido and sets most of his work there.

When I was in Hokkaido a couple months ago, the Hakodate Museum of Northern Peoples had a bunch of references to that manga in its curation, and it was pretty clear what the curator was talking about.

Minesweeper of US Navy docks at Hokkaido port amid protests.

Hakodate, Hokkaido, the US Navy minesweeper Warrior entered Hakodate Port in Hokkaido on September 9th for maintenance work by a private Japanese company, drawing protests from a local pacifist group.

Flying the Stars and Stripes, the minesweeper, assigned to the Sasebo Naval Base in Nagasaki Prefecture, entered Hakodate Port under escort by Hokkaido police security boats and Japan Coast Guard patrol vessels shortly after ten AM.

It then proceeded directly to Hakodate Dock Company, which faces the bay for maintenance work.

The Warrior is a one thousand three hundred twelve ton vessel with a maximum landing capacity of eighty-five personnel.

Maintenance work on US vessels in Japan is already being carried out by such companies as Sasebo Heavy Industries Company and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited.

At a park near the port, about thirty members of the civic group Hakodate Peace Committee staged a protest against the Warrior's arrival.
