168: It’s a Very Little Cat
J
2:32John CoxonHOST
It was very good.
J
2:33John CoxonHOST
It was in the Anaheim Hilton and Anaheim Convention Centre, which are in the greater Los Angeles area, but are not actually in Los Angeles itself.
J
2:44John CoxonHOST
Los Angeles is complicated.
J
2:45John CoxonHOST
Do you have any questions about it?
13 MINS LATER

And you've got to give people accurate timing, especially if people are going to run parties afterwards and things like that.
L
15:26Liz BattyHOST
They need to know that you're not actually kicking off until 11 p.m.
J

yeah well and also like because the so the party scene at LA was really nice because all of the rooms that are the party suites at the Anaheim Hilton back onto a central courtyard that had tables so like you it was actually really nice because there was such like basically parties around the edge of this big space where everyone was hanging out it felt a lot like the bar at an Easter con except with a lot more free alcohol and I was super down for that the social scene was it's probably the best way I've seen it done at a world con I had a great time in the parties like I think that part LA con take a bow it was perfect but because the night deck shut at midnight officially it meant that by the time we'd come out of the ceremony gone to the losers reception had a drink and like commiserated read some stats and then gone to the parties the parties had largely wound down that is a problem because if you because I think the thing is if you're going to have a three hour long ceremony it needs to start at seven and that's the real problem But if it starts at 7, because the program, Megan, Helen, Montgomery, doing program, had blocked out all of the finalists from, I think, 4 o'clock.
J

So if you're a Hugo finalist, you weren't programmed after 4 o'clock on the Sunday, and then the reception started at 5.30 for a 7.30 move into the auditorium for an 8 o'clock start.

But during the convention itself, I spent most of my time just dashing between buildings before the sun got me, and then navigating two rather different mazes at the con itself.
J
40:28Jake Casella BrookinsHOST
The Anaheim Hilton, which was where a lot of the smaller programming happened, was this sort of like... deceptive maze.
J
40:36Jake Casella BrookinsHOST
I don't know how big it was.
J
40:37Jake Casella BrookinsHOST
I don't think it was really that big, but I never got a firm grasp on it.

So a little bit of unofficial events at BlizzCon.
D
47:26DenatharHOST
The Anaheim Hilton, which is a hotel that is right across the street from the convention center, is kind of like the unofficial place to go and get a drink and maybe even talk to one of the game devs.
D
47:37DenatharHOST
who also get to get drink.
D
47:39DenatharHOST
Um, that's a great place to go.

We were staying at the Hilton that is at the Anaheim Convention Center so that we could be close to the action when we got there.
R
11:19Rob WhitesideHOST
And we checked in there like 1 a.m.
R
11:21Rob WhitesideHOST
I mean, it was late when we got there.
R

There was one security.
R
16:06Rob WhitesideHOST
There are three different security entrances, and this is the one right next to our hotel.
R
16:10Rob WhitesideHOST
That's the building you see behind you is that Anaheim Hilton.

So it's really, really close.
