Hillside Strangler

So basically, anytime she'd listen to My Favorite Murderer, she'd be like, Oh, yeah.

And I know somebody that was, you know, killed by the Hillside Strangler.

And I know, you know, my best friend, my best friend's fiance was one of the victims of Robert Elmer Cleason.

And like, you know, all this kind of serial killer connections.

It made me... a very different person it changed my music of course playing psychedelic it was so funny writing psychedelic rock and roll music but always writing country songs you know um every now and again writing you know writing a country song that would just come out so easily and uh I had a friend who was a criminal attorney, a famous criminal attorney in Los Angeles.

And he had brought in, he did the trial of the Hillside Strangler, and he was quite a famous attorney.

And I hadn't seen him for a number of years.

And I made a little record in a garage with a friend.

Gil kept pushing anyway.

He was eventually partnered with Frank Salerno, the detective who, a decade earlier, had helped crack the Hillside Strangler case.

Frank was skeptical at first, but then the same shoe prints kept showing up.

And that spring, children in nearby neighborhoods had been abducted and assaulted, and the descriptions they gave police matched Maria Hernandez's.

They said they wanted to be famous, but not like movie stars.

They compared themselves to names like Ted Bundy, the Hillside Strangler, the Zodiac Killer, and Ed Gein.

And Brian and Tori wanted to outdo them.

They talked about Columbine as something to improve on, They wanted a higher death count, and they wanted to make history.

And then from New York, you've got Chain Gang with Son of Sam.

Yeah, yeah.

The Zodiac Killer.

Those people are more amateurs compared to what we're going to be.

So that's odd, right? You're saying, I'd like to be compared to Ted Bundy, Hillside Strangler.

No, no, we're going to be better than that.

And remember, these are 16-year-old kids, and these serial killers had all operated long before they were even born.

Kenneth Bianchi is still alive.

We know who the Hillside Stranglers were.

We know that these women were murdered.

And we know that this building right here played a major role in the case.

now we're gonna head to another infamous la crime scene and an entirely different mystery but before we go you guys if you could get some views here i just want to say kato and i have been here before we've done an episode on the hillside stranglers but i'm telling you it just is eerie to think what happened not much has changed the building right there is pretty much where it was before there's more security gates etc but this is the street colorado the right hand leg down, and to think that Waldo and Bianchi pulled in here and what they did back there.
