Hilary Hahn

Uh, bef- in, in a past life, I was an agent and, uh, for classical musicians, and I used to book, uh, our roster of artists, uh, with Pittsburgh Symphony and then the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society, and there was a series called the Y Music Society, which presented very famous recitalists.

You know, they presented, um, Rubinstein, and I remember when I was at IMG, I booked Hilary Hahn there.

I booked Leif Ove Andsnes there.

Um, that series is no more, but I think there's a real opportunity for recital, recital presentation, and so we're really happy to be helping to fill that role, um, particularly with piano recitals.

Some famous alumni include Charles Ives, Mitch Lee, composer of Man of La Mancha, five winners of the Pulitzer Prize in Music, Kevin Putz, Carolyn Shaw, Aaron J. Kernis, Julia Wolf, and David Lang.

This room has also staged numerous masterclasses with world-renowned instrumentalists like Hilary Hahn, Augustin Hadelich, Joel Smirnoff, Paul Watkin and Paul Lewis, and our very own Henry Chappard, who is now the co-principal cello of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

I love teaching here.

And a truism that has stayed with me for life was something Pablo Casars once said at the Marlborough Festival.

We went to school together, and he came.

Emanuel Axe and Itzhak Berlman and Josh Bell from Indiana fame, of course, and Dame Evelyn Glennie and Hilary Hahn and Sharon Isbin.

And it's been a lot of fun collaborating with some really great artists.

So let's talk about the season, Carmel's upcoming season.

So for young people who want to play the violin, he's got tons of little tips to help them.

Hilary Hahn, another violinist, who has done that with a practice project that she's created.

And that has attracted young students.

I will put in a plug here for Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra.

And then the violin concerto has been done a whole lot.

Hilary Hahn was the one who played that premier concerto.
