Highway Star

And the guy said, "This is insane." Uh, it, during his broadcast, at some point, I can't remember which newscaster it was, but at some point during that description of LA burning, he said, "It's a regular hooligan's holiday." And I was like, "Oh, that's, that's a cool title," so I wrote it down.

And I had started working on an idea that was more in the lines of Live Wire meets, uh, maybe Highway Star by Deep Purple.

Right.

Uh, there was an old song, I don't know if you remember it, Ian Gillan, when he left Deep Purple, he put a band together with a guy named, uh, Bernie Torme on guitar.

Yeah.

[singing] So that was, like, uh, initially, that riff was total double time.

It was like, like I said, Highway Star, Ru- White Face City Boy.

Live Wire.

That poor lady in Japan.

Is that when you wrote Highway Star after that?

No, no, we wrote Highway Star way before that.

We

were on a bus going down to a show in Brighton on the south coast of England, and we had some journalists on the bus riding with us.

The aesthetic and the look and the design and even the logo doesn't match anything they've done before.

It'll be Highway Star with a car or they'll have, you know, just like something that looks like vaguely a biker style aesthetic, which I don't really necessarily associate with Deep Purple.

So, yeah, a little disappointed there.

But like I said, it saved me a lot of money.

Like if you live in close by, um, because it's a great place to go and have a picnic and they do a lot of cons concerts, like, um, orchestral concerts and stuff.

So I thought, uh, you know, maybe there was, there were as a group there or something that were interested.

Uh, but you know, I thought, what, what a cool thing, you know, what if, what if there was, uh, someone there that had been a deep purple fan before maybe had lost their hearing and um had never heard the new music you know obviously you can go there you can feel the sounds and feel the vibrations and it wouldn't that be interesting to kind of oh i'm a i can remember hearing highway star and smoke on the water whatever and then see them doing the um the sign language for The newer songs, I mean, it's the closest that you can come to kind of really experiencing that.

So I thought it was a very interesting thing that I've never witnessed.
