High Evolutionary

Oh, it's the third one.

It's during Rocket's confrontation with the High Evolutionary.

Hmm.

I feel like it might be in both.

And before I get deeper, I think for those who haven't read it, I will explain quickly.

At the beginning of this book, Dorian Green is thrust into a duplicator machine that was salvaged by Iron Man and used irresponsibly from the High Evolutionary.

The duplicated Dorian Green, in a moment of... heartbreak and peril.

The key difference between her and our Noreen became apparent where she does not have the same empathy that Doreen does for everyone.

I'm struggling to find any specific moments in this that really stick out to me.

Not because there aren't any, but just because there's so fucking many.

I did like when the High Evolutionary's animal henchmen show

up,

He's talking to the audience.

Suddenly, a portal opens up behind him and out steps the High Evolutionary.

In this version of the script, though, he didn't get killed, right? The High Evolutionary.

So he didn't get killed.

The High Evolutionary looks at Adam and nods.

We have work to do, he says.

The scene ends with Adam and the High Evolutionary walking through the portal and disappearing into the unknown reaches of space.

And then you

As Rocket is lying there, dying, lifeless, basically, we learn a tragic backstory of how he became the Rocket that we know and, for the most part, love.

As a baby raccoon, Rocket was captured and experimented on by the High Evolutionary, the leader of Orgo Corp.

The High Evolutionary is basically obsessed with creating a perfect society by genetically modifying animals into intelligent humanoid creatures.

Let's call them humanimals.

Rocket proves to be unusually intelligent compared to all the other ones.

And the High Evolutionary uses his ideas to improve future generations of human animals.

But...

Instead of being proud of Rocket, the High Evolutionary ends up becoming jealous of Rocket and is concerned that he's going to be able to solve problems that he can't.

So.

that is where cards like High Evolutionary come in, where as we go through the lifespan of the game, cards that reinvigorate older cards or I shouldn't say older cards, but like cards you get in the Series 1, Series 2 in some capacity have value because now you're looking at it through a different scope going, okay, I played with it when I first started and it was like this, but now this specific card changes the entire deck and now gives me a completely different aspect of life.

I'm going to jump ahead to what I was referencing before.

I think High Evolutionary should also give value special abilities, unlocking the potential, quote-unquote, to not just cards with no abilities, but also the five guardians.

Because I think that element of those cards...

More thematically, it makes sense to let that reinvigorate those cards in some other way.

And Major Victory tries to be a shield card, but only gives you crap ones.

I doubt that Ewing knows who the High Evolutionary is, but I know all this stuff.

Why am I supposed to buy into this conspiracy thing? This is not a reality where you would think that Roswell would hold any particular importance, although it does come up because it has to.

And of course, it involves Skrulls because this is the Marvel Universe.

I loved the high evolutionary the first time I saw the movie.

I think he's more stock evil villain.

Yeah, that's kind of the thing about the high evolutionary is like, I think that there's a couple of different approaches to doing like a good memorable villain.

Like there's the flat, but entertaining mustache swirling villain where it's just kind of fun.

I'll put like, I'll throw Jafar as that's an example of just, you know, he's not complex.

I might throw Killmonger from Black Panther in that category.

And then there's the villain that the movie just makes you hate them so much that you just can't wait to see them get their comeuppance.

And that is the high evolutionary.
