Hesped

The Gemara, towards the end of the Medbeis, brings Agav Urcha, Rayo, that sometimes when he says something, it doesn't mean the thing itself only, it means Kavokharim or something else.

The word brings, and it says in Megillus Tainis, Pesach zero, the small Pesach, means Pesach Sheni, you're not allowed to do a Hesped.

Mashbar, Pesach Rabah means the main Pesach, you're allowed to do a Hesped, and the Kol Shekeinu, it's a Kol Shekeinu, if you Pesach Kotel, means Pesach Sheni, you can't do a Hesped that day, so Pesach Rish, a Kol Shekeinu.

Now the Mishnah of the Melech, in Parag Vov, in the Yichud, it's called the Kiddish, it speaks there about the union of Erev Pesach.

And he says, where it should have been that Erev Pesach had been Karbonis, he should have had a lot to fast.

And this leads to an interesting discussion that the Akronim have, that we don't say Pesach She'ni Tachr, because of what the Gemara tells us over here.

What about Erev Pesach Sheni, the day before? We usually have a rule that every Yom Tiv that we have, we don't go and we don't say Tachnor in the Mincha before.

What about Pesach Sheni, that's the day again, you know, you're not allowed to do a Hesped, it's the day of the Yom Tiv.

So he published it and they collect all the new material.

They put in the Hesped on the Ragatchover, his correspondences with Rav Meir Simcha Darsameach, all this stuff has just come out this year.

Okay.

Now, just to throw out there one thing, another tremendous seed that this Yisharal Deshevitz had a kesher with was with Rav Dovid Karliner.

Anyway, it's a fascinating letter and its own story.

Okay.

Anyway, bottom line is, so this Rav Yisharal Deshevitz, who has a kesher with them, he has this Hesped and he writes all different things.

One nekuda to say over from him about Rav Meir Simcha that he throws into this Hesped also was, he was once walking with him on Shabbos.

Also, furthermore, it says in Megillus Tainas, Arba Bey, 14 days an year, is Pesach Z'ira, is Pesach Kotan, Pesach Sheni.

To the lowest limit of the day, we don't say a Hesped.

Haraba, would that mean that we do say a Hesped on full-fledged Pesach? Of course not.

El of a Kaldakein, we should say that...

A Pesach Kotan we can't say, but certainly a regular Pesach.

Rav says in Rosh Hashanah, that after the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash, the festivals that were listed in Megilas Tainis are no longer celebrated, and those days are no longer considered oser for fasting or for hespedim.

So in Megillus Tainis it says that Pesach Z'ira, which is referred to as Pesach She'ni, which comes on Yud Dalet Iyar, it's also to make a Hesped for someone who dies.

And since it's also to do a Hesped on Pesach She'ni, then Kal V'Choymir, it's also to do a Hesped on Pesach Rishon.

In other words, Yud Dalet Nisan, Tesuvot Nisan, and so on.

Finally, Ekezai Es Bosar, which is Pirish from Eber Ben Achai.

So that's the discussion about the purpose of a mechitza.

Rav Moshe brings raya that the requirement of mechitza is a din to oraysa, that it is not a din midivre kabbalah, even though the Gemara says they learned it from a pasuk in Zecharia, that they figured out in the times of Simcha's Beis HaShoeva, that the Nabi Zachariah describes the death of Moshiach ben Yosef and that the Hesped is going to have men and women sitting separately.

And they realize that even in a time of Hesped, the men and women are separate, all the more so in a time of levity and joy, the men and women ought to be separate from each other.

Okay, one more data point, one more data point, and then we'll bring it all home.

And that is, I think we mentioned in one of the earlier shurim, Rav Moshe has a tshuva where he says that although you do need a mechitza, if there's only one woman in the men's section sitting in the back on her own, either to collect tzedakah or to say Kaddish, that's no big deal.

And what do they do at the funeral? They eulogize.

That's called Hesped.

So Shlomo says, Et Sefot.

Says Gaon Mevilna, when it comes to all the other 26 times, Shilomot uses the letter Lamed as a prefix.

Gimel, Resh, Yud, Zayin, the Grizz.

But in this Hesped, where the Rav acts so eloquent, and it seems that he could have, some people took it as if he was a little offensive to the Chazonish, because he spoke about that the brisker Rav was an Ish-Emes, completely different, and therefore he couldn't meet with Ben-Gurion.

But we know that Chazonish met with Ben-Gurion.

Rabbi David Cohen was at that meeting It was at the Hesped.

And Rav David Cohen got up and was moche.

He protested.

And you want to prevent them from having the itzahara of going to learn with the Rav, although the public shurim were such events, standing room only sort of thing.

Yeah.

But when one sees the Sefer, one sees that this was a remarkable work with everything.

So this was a, that he said in the Hesped, and this was a person that we'll see momentarily, he was an expert in Rambam, so if he's saying this about Ar Sameach, he's a mandama in the Sukkot.

Okay, now there's one Hesped that gets quoted a lot, but it's never, I don't know if it's, it's never quoted who he was.

As a matter of fact, the first time he published it, he published, he publishes it, and he signs off, The initial is Yud Resh.

So this was published shortly after Ramei Yisimcha was nifter in the journal Shari Tzien, Shari Tzien in Yerushalayim.

All this is when you're learning the Ar Sameach, this is what this Talmud of his says.

Bekitzer eventually becomes known, but it's interesting.

This Yid is writing this in the Hesped, he says, "...from the three volumes of the Ar Sameach, it was not nespashet that he got the proper enough cover that he should have from it." Why? He says, very simple.
