HeroQuest

I mean, you know, like, I've done Descent.

Also, like, if you want to go way, way back, what got me into the hobby D&D initially was HeroQuest.

Yes, I've heard a lot of

stuff.

I've never played it.

And I have it in all the expansions, and I've got it fully painted.

No shit.

So I tend to play with my little boy.

I tend to play a bit of HeroQuest every now and again.

because it's quite simple enough for him.

But he also gets into Battlefleet Gothic.

So that would be...

That would be one to go with.

And similarly, we've had a go at HeroQuest and played a bit of Blood Bowl with them as well.

So a great one actually early on was Gorka Morka.

I'm happy to take that risk if it means potentially playing the game.

He loves HeroQuest.

He loves

fantasy.

And do you think that's the co-op bit? Because that's what it means for me is that it was the first one.

I played like HeroQuest and stuff before where it's like you against the DM kind of thing.

But it was one of the first games I can ever really remember where you were playing cooperatively to defeat the game.

Yes, yeah, because you're not playing against someone controlling something.

... for a long time I have had a particular issue, and I'm probably gonna get in trouble with this.

I have mixed up the titles HeroScape and HeroQuest.

Blasphemy.

Both Hasbro titles, both vastly different games, but I have mixed up the titles.

And now, just to make my life more difficult, Renegade Games has made an expansion for HeroScape called HeroScape Expeditions, which sounds like it turns it into HeroQuest.

HeroScape [laughs] Expeditions is now a scenario-driven dr- dungeon crawl play mode for HeroScape.

That's interesting.

Yes

You know, a couple of squads of little space soldiers working their way through a cardboard base with loads of cardboard doors.

Similar thing with HeroQuest, little warriors going around and rolling loads of dice.

What's going on? I don't know, that looks complicated.

I have minis for

Mouse Ritter and then the HeroQuest miniatures.

That would be using basically Mouse Ritter rules but scaling it up to human size, which is basically what Cairn is or, you know, the regular Into the Odd.

I just use the Mouse Ritter rule set to do full scale, you know, human scale adventures as well.

So those are kind of my five RPGs that I would repurchase.

And then Fate of the Fellowship as another board game for another co-op.

So what did we have for board games? Mice and Mystics, HeroQuest, Fate of the Fellowship.

I just said another one, didn't I? The Initiative 4.

It's based on an old German game, whose name I will not butcher here on the pod, but it's based on an old German game, which was like a skirmish game where you had cavemen riding dinosaurs.

It only got printed in Germany, but importantly, it was made by the designers of HeroQuest and Heroescape and Space Crusade.

And this is the big one, Tumbling Monkeys.

We are working with the same designers who worked on that, who've done a lot of stuff for Restoration Games and stuff like that recently.

I just haven't played them.

I would almost put HeroQuest here, but it's probably a little too high fantasy to really get that sword and sorcery vibes.

Although... hero quest pure nostalgia for me could easily be homebrewed and the rules are simple enough for that so you could pull out the orcs and the goblins and replace them with snake men and you know just focus on bigger monsters and apes and giant snakes and things like that and make yourself a sword and sorcery game But, you know, for the D&D genre, HeroQuest fits.

I also have Mice & Mystics, which is kind of right up the alley.

I know there's a bunch of actual D&D board games, but I haven't played any of those either.
