Apostrophes suggesting possession or association are discouraged within the body of proper geographic names.

Henry's Fork, no apostrophe.

Not Henry's Apostrophe, no fork.

The word or words that form a geographic name change their connotative function and together become a single denotative unit.

And, It has right there next to it Washington Lake, which is one of the big dams and massive campground and everybody and their dog is usually there.

So as far as the drainages go on the north slope, you've got the Bear River, the Weber, Blacks Fork, Smith's Fork, Henry's Fork, Beaver Creek, and Burnt Fork.

And then you kind of have like off to the east side.

That can be north or south slope.

Yeah, I would

say September, late September, early October, you're going to get some weather.

I mean, this year I went into Henry's Fork Trailhead in the second week of October, I think it was.

And we had light snow flurries on the way in.

Rich, Rich, Rich and John are awesome guys.

The lodge is awesome, right there on the, the Henry's Fork, and just so many great rivers in that area.

Uh, we've played there at least two or three times, I wanna say.

Mm-hmm.

So not like a super unique fish, but a moment that I, again, I can't forget.

And one of the cooler fish is probably the biggest brown trout ever caught was on the Henry's fork.

And I happened to be fishing with some buddies on a really weather-wise, a horrible day.

We got rained on, snowed on, all of that.

And then, uh, that's probably the biggest water within, like, a day's drive.

But then just two hours away, you know, the Henry's Fork is right there-

Now, is that because you're trying to, uh, uh, quit a, a vice that you've had in the past or just, uh-

No, it's honestly, you know, all growing up, my grandpa and I, he would fish a ton together.

We would fish around southern Idaho, like Henry's Lake, the Henry's Fork-

Oh, cool

And it's very simple if you know when to expect the emergences.

In other words, if you're going to be here in July, you know hydropsyche, the tan caddis, is going to be the force on the Madison, Yellowstone, Henry's Fork, those rivers.

And you're prepared.

And it also gives you the popular fly patterns, whether it's an X caddis or an iris caddis, to successfully fish that hatch.

You know, they arrive in the, for instance, on the Henry's Fork early in the morning and they see these fish gently sipping and they immediately think, "God, they're on mayfly spinners." Well, you take your little seine out that you buy at the aquarium store for 75 cents and you put it in the flow and all of a sudden you discover, my God, there's millions of spent caddis, caddis that have laid their eggs and died and they're a very important food source during their time on the water.

So you got to learn to recognize that, which is so simple just by taking that little seine out and you put on a very easy fly to tie a spent caddis and you're taking fish immediately and big selective fish.

He was one of the incorporators of the Missouri Fur Company in 1809, and in the spring and summer of that year had led an expedition up the Missouri to the Three Forks, where a trading post had been established.

Driven thence by the terrible Blackfeet, he had crossed the continental divide and built a fort on what has since been called Henry's Fork of the Snake River, thus being the first American trader to operate west of the Rockies.

Having spent there the winter of 1810-11, Henry, finding this position also extremely difficult, if not impossible, to hold against the Indians, had returned to St. Louis during the following summer.

For ten years now he had been engaged in lead mining and had come to be known as Andrew Henry of the Mines.

During the 25th, they drifted rapidly through 20 miles of mountainous country, past the mouth of a beautiful, bold-running stream about 50 yards wide, now called Black's Fork, and camped on an island after making about 25 miles.

For five days thereafter, they moved on downstream in a leisurely fashion, without observing any remarkable difference in the appearance of the river or the surrounding country.

On the last day of April, they arrived at the base of a lofty mountain, the summit of which was covered with snow, and camped at the mouth of a creek 60 feet wide, now known as Henry's Fork, that entered from the west.

This spot, says Ashley, I selected as a place of general rendezvous, which I designated by marks in accordance with the instructions given to my men.

That's why we have no runoff across the West because we just never built snowpack, um, So it's really strange.

I mean, we were up on, or I was up on the Henry's fork a couple of weeks ago and the flows were pretty bad.

Um, and we, we fished the fire hole opener on May 1st.

They've moved it back a month this year and it was super low generally during the beginning of May.

Yeah, I think for me, a lot of these thoughts.

So I actually wrote this article a couple of years ago.

After a day, a morning on the Lower Henry's Fork.

I remember when we first talked about it.

We had a few great times, and we had other times that were extremely challenging where, [laughs] you know, we were fishing 22s and 24s to, in that clear water, to really persnickety fish.

And maybe not quite like, uh, the Henry's Fork, but that was challenging.

That was definitely challenging fishing.
