So interestingly, there was a paper by Schlinger and Blakely in 1987 that talks about a deadline being described as a contingency specifying stimulus, CSS, contingency specifying stimulus.

So on the beginning, you sort of are saying, this is when the deadline is, and these are the contingencies you can expect when this deadline comes.

So it basically has both a discriminative effect and also an evocative effect, which is quite interesting because your discriminative effect is signaling what the contingency is.
