Henry Rees

As well as a comprehensive treatment of marriage in the Old Testament, which of course applies across the New Testament, this book offers a brilliant discussion of covenants and oaths in general in the Old Testament.

And finally, we have another book for those interested in church history, and this time it comes from Dr. Martin Cowan, who is recommending The Fall, Last Days of the English Republic by Henry Rees.

And this is a book that speaks directly to Dr. Cowan's research in early modern history, exploring the collapse of England's republic and challenging the assumption that the restoration of the monarchy in 1660 was inevitable.

The book connects with Dr. Coyne's interest in the role of Presbyterians in shaping religious and political change.

So that is The Fall by Henry Rees.

We hope this gives you some ideas for your next read.

And if anybody happens to take up these suggestions, please do let us know what you thought of the books in the comments or by emailing podcast at union.ac.uk. Our next episode will be a conversation between Dr. Gavin Kerr and Dr. Graham Shearer, and that will be on the proofs for the existence of God.
