Seems hard to imagine, but, uh, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Henry Ford Hospital's Emergency Medicine Residency program, which was launched in 1976, and among the nation's first emergency medicine residency programs that really helped define a specialty that was still in its infancy at the time.

Uh, the man overseeing it, the chair of Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Health, joins us right now.

Uh, Dr. John Deleidi is here, and we're gonna talk about and celebrate Henry Ford Health celebrating those 50 years of the medical residency program.

That's, that's right.

Uh, our specialty, uh, is, is one of the younger in the house of medicine, and, and Henry Ford Health and specifically Henry Ford Hospital has played such a vital role in that as one of the first, uh, one of the first training programs that developed, uh, in the country and in the city, uh, in 1976.

Uh, since then, we have defined, uh, what it means to train specialists in emergency medicine, not just physicians that happen to work in emergency departments.

It truly has, uh, defined the specialty and, and again, our program has contributed greatly to that.

Craig Rogers, who is actually now a, you know, head of urology at the Henry Ford Hospital.

And he got me into, like, a fellowship, research fellowship, then two years of, of a clinical fellowship in urology.

And then from there, I realized it's a long, long road before I would start residency again, so I switched to family medicine.

You inherited an office.

Like, how did you start practicing? Did you join a larger group, or did you just go right into being a solo practitioner?

So first, after my residency at Henry Ford Hospital, I became a s-staff doctor there at Henry Ford, one of the satellite locations.

That was for about a year or two years I was, I was, I was there.

So the Zero Suicide Framework is really meant to be an approach that uses systems-based thinking to address really complex problem of youth suicide.

It was originally developed in Michigan at Henry Ford Hospital and has since really spread throughout the country to a wide variety of both adult and pediatric institutions that use this framework.

The framework itself is applicable across healthcare settings.

So emergency room, inpatient primary care.
