Hellingly

We now come to the news from the Hailsham and Polgate region, generously sponsored by Barraclough's The Opticians.

Hellingley residents opposing plans for up to 280 homes in the village have taken their campaign directly to Wealdon District Council.

Resident Nicola Walker hand-delivered a file containing 300 objections, to the council offices in Hailsham as campaigners also gathered outside with banners reading, Hellingley says no.

The objections were delivered in addition to those already submitted through Wealdon's online planning portal, with the total number of objections believed to be as high as 600.

The proposed development seeks permission for the erection of up to 280 dwellings, including affordable housing together with the formation of new access and reconfiguration at Mill Lane, formal and informal open space, landscape planting, drainage infrastructure and associated works at Shore Pits Farm.

A spokesperson for the campaign, Serena Schellenberg, said...

We wanted to bring these objections right to the Council's door.

The strength of feeling in Hellingley is extraordinary.

From its original base at One Market Square, the service has grown into an expanded operation working across Hailsham and the surrounding community.

Funded and managed by Hailsham Town Council, the service provides activities, support, and opportunities for young people, including the Hellingly Youth Club, a Monday youth hub sessions, and a program of free and low-cost activities throughout the Friday night project.

The station is ideally located close to Hailsham Town Center and the recreation ground, keeping the youth service firmly in the center of the community.

The nearly four hundred square meters building also offers high levels of accessibility, including disabled access.
