Hellhammer

If you're in a black metal band.

You've got to have Fenris, Euronymous, Necro Butcher, Hellhammer, Varg Vikernes, Ishan, Abath, Shagrath, right? Like you've got to have a name.

You can't just be John or Joe or Phil or, you know, Thomas, Harry, Harry Potter.

No, you cannot be.

Clearly.

But other bands, other musicians said Venom really was important.

Like Tom G. Warrior of Celtic Frost and Hellhammer said, quote, above everybody...

Above everybody must stand Venom, who were really the first of all these bands.

I like that sort of sludgy, heavy stuff.

And I obviously like Hellhammer and Frost and the like.

Yeah.

That's the one I listen to all the time.

I was, oddly enough, speaking of Bathory, just while Tom's gone out for a moment, I was speaking to Adam Richardson about, I think it was last year, and I was saying to him that second Gramercy's album, Take the Curse, I was like, now when I listen to that, man, it just sounds like you guys listened to the first three Bathory albums and Hellhammer and a bit of Celtic Frost and then listened to Sabbath and you just lumped those two together and it's Adam kind of like...

That wry smile just looked at me, it was like, I'm Holy Trinity, innit? Yeah, yeah, cool.

They're an awesome band.

Even though when you think of it, Triptychons, like Triptych, they play, you know, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer and Triptychon songs.

It all makes sense, even down to the name.

It all makes great sense.

Yeah, definitely.

So, yeah, it was kind of like a new direction for the extreme metal, you know, because you had death metal and also the first wave of black metal with Venom and Battery and Hellhammer and those bands, but you know, that was not a very big scene, not very much bands in the first wave.

So it kind of like, yeah, the new vision scene took it to a whole different level.

And it has also kind of, you know, expanded from you know the the raw black metal which was in the start to all different kinds of yeah black metal or black black metal inspired uh music it went in all directions really

... a dog that they claim is part dingo, and is named Hellhammer.
