Hell House

So, you know what, I have something that's maybe a sidestep connected to that particular book.

We're going to be talking about Richard Matheson's Hell House.

And Richard Matheson, those of you in the audience who know, actually wrote the script to the 1968 Hammer version of The Devil Rides Out, the movie.

So there's a connection there.

This was one I used to get on the regular in the local supermarket for maybe a Friday evening watching a movie or reading a good novel.

It's a bottle of Black Dog from Elgood Brewing in Cambridgeshire and it is a dark mild cask.

ale and as i always say in the show i have a terrible fondness for cask ales and kind of flat room temperature in english beers just because they're so difficult to get here so i was very lucky that the explorers club lounge had a bottle of this ready for me when i was collecting my packed lunch earlier today and now the time has come to open that bottle and enjoy it So yeah, you can join us here tonight for this stakeout and to learn a little bit about Richard Matheson's Hell House.

So I think we'll read a little bit off the back.

And I'd already been reading James Herbert from England and Ireland.

Richard Matheson, his book Hell House.

I just read those.

And then when I read Stephen King, I said, this is what I want to do.

Mm-hmm

... and of course, uh, Hell House by Richard Matheson.

Both made into excellent movies.

One is more known because it got more press.

Uh, Hell House was made into a movie called The Legend of Hell House.

Unfortunately, it was released-

[gentle music] Therapy's biggest impact doesn't show up in some dramatic breakthrough.

But it had excellent stars in it.

Yeah, I wondered for so...

I mean, her, her level of arrogance, right, is [laughs] was probably the highest we've seen since, uh, what's-his-name in Hell House.

Um-
