Helen Oyeyemi

So you can check back for other books in the series and some episodes that have already been released, including Die for Me, The Reformatory and The Gilda Stories.

Today is White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi.

But first, how are you Serena?

I am well, Rach, and it's nearly Halloween.

Yes, absolutely.

And I feel like it's just so cleverly done.

Okay, so Helen Oyeyemi, just sidebar, have you looked up anything about her? None.

No, nothing.

You've got to do your own parapsychological decentralization.

Who's talking about that? I shall leave you with a snippet from White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi.

On Sunday afternoon, Sade washed the sitting room windows from the inside, an expression of pure patience on her face as Miranda tried to teach her to whistle.

She couldn't get the hang of it.

I absolutely assumed it was a name for a reason, and I can't say why.

Um, probably 'cause it kinda sounds like the name of a character in one of the Helen Oyeyemi novels I love.

Um, but anyway, yeah, I did not realize it was musical in the least, not that it needs to be, but yeah, I just wonder if the title is leaving people with a question mark.

Yeah.

Now, five contemporary authors have each written a new story exploring the many different ways a haunting can unfold.

A Ghostly Little Book brings together stories from Roddy Doyle, Olga Ravn, Eliza Clark, Tom Crewe, and Helen Oyeyemi, stories that are by turn strange, unsettling, funny, moving and, of course, frightening.

Roddy Doyle is the author of 13 acclaimed novels as well as books for children, plays, and screenplays.

He won the Booker Prize in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha, and he is one of Ireland's most celebrated contemporary writers.

He really does.

And Helen Oyeyemi does something equally complex with Gingerbread.

Oh, that's a wild one.

Right, because we spend the holidays building these cute little elaborate gingerbread houses with frosting and candy buttons.
