Helen J Shen

Michigan.

Uh, Darren Criss and, uh, Helen J. Shen.

Right.

Helen J. Shen was-

Yeah

...

Uh, so the show came to me, um, back in May of 2024.

Um, I had found out that Michael is directing this new show on Broadway starring Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen, and I was like, "Oh, this sounds really cool." And, um, I worked with Michael before on the Lost Boys workshop earlier that year.

And so my agent, uh, s- sent me an audition for this, uh, musical that, like, I didn't really hear about and I didn't know too much about.

And I remember reading the script and listening to the demos in my room, and my, my girlfriend was in the room working.

I can't do it anymore." And luckily I had a friend with me, and he, like, talked me off of the ledge and was like, "You're doing great.

Don't worry about it." Um, and then I was doing Teeth, the, a new show at, uh, New World Stages.

Actually, Helen J. Shen also was in that show right before me, uh, at Playwrights, and I got to see her, and she was incredible.

And so I was doing this show that I absolutely loved, and I was doing it through November, December, and it closed in January, and I was auditioning, and I was doing other, uh, things.

Charles and Liz, played by Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards, are vampires whose marriage of 500 years has settled into tedium.

They live in present day Seattle among an eccentric coven until their daughter Emma, played by Helen J. Shen, brings home Max, played by Jaren Lewison, her human boyfriend, whose arrival disrupts the household and forces the couple to reckon with the prospect of an eternity together.

You've named an excellent cast.

We have Mindy Kaling alums in Ed Weeks and Jaren Lewison.

We saw Allegra Edwards be very, very funny in Upload.

Helen J. Shen is also great in this pilot episode.

This is a great cast.

The coven is rounded out with my king, Parker Young, who plays Jesse, and his human wife Phyllis, played by Rose Abdoo, another icon.

Yes.

Helen J. Shen, that's where she's from.

Oh, okay.

I would not have been able to place her from there.

That doesn't seem great." But-

It's also especially weird because, um, the other, like, main role in the show is played by Helen Shen, and apparently this guy is her boyfriend.

Yep.

Oh, that's kinda funny.
