If the law is our protector, how should it be protecting the natural world? Does nature have rights in the same way that there are human rights? That's what we're going to be asking in today's program.

It is a hotly debated topic at the moment, with a bill currently going through the House of Lords which aims to give legal rights to nature.

And obviously, all of the animals on Earth are interesting, but today, we are going to be focusing on one of my absolute favorites because I think it's the closest you can get on Earth to seeing an alien.

And of course, it's the octopus.

When we think of the world we live in, often our perception is one of competition: the strongest, the fittest, the most aggressive.

Whether it's in wildlife or nature or humanity in general, those are the ones who we generally think ultimately survive or succeed.

The backs are split.
