Tell us a little bit about who you are.
0:57
So right now, currently, I am the founder and owner of the Sunflower School here in Orangeville, Ontario, and we have 200 children, approximately 50 staff, and I'm really fortunate to work with my daughters.
1:13
I work with my oldest daughter is a director at one of our schools.
1:17
My youngest daughter does the enrollment, and I always give her big hugs because this time of year is just horrific.
1:24
Right now, she just told me this morning she's juggling 100 children for spaces for September.
1:31
Uh, so I give her a lot of credit.
1:34
And then my sister, who joined us about eight years ago, she takes care of the money.

12 MINS LATER

14:06
But I will say one thing that I've observed from your team, both by actually seeing and then also listening to the podcast episodes, and I would love to know if you actually know how you've done it, is how did you help your team take ownership of their programs? Because I will say that is something that I have found very unique is that your team can answer any question about their programs confidently.
52:09
Mm-hmm
52:09
... for me, if I'm still biking 10 to 15 hours a week, I've actually had way better results.
52:15
So for me, it's been like, "Okay, this is cool." Like, keep the bike in.
52:20
Like, I'm not thrashing myself as much.
52:22
I'm not, like, tearing my body down.
52:26
I do as well if not better in my run races with the biking.
52:29
So, um, just seeing that, um, off of different training blocks has been great.

15 MINS LATER

67:11
... what are you most nervous about? And then I know you've talked to some of these, you know, top, like, these people who do, the women who do this all the time, the big bikepackers, and what advice have they given you?
1:57
Tell us a little bit about how you got there and how you ended up being a professional endurance athlete from that path.
2:04
Yeah, well, thank you again for having me on.
2:08
Yeah, the ice hockey is funny because to me it feels like a whole separate life now, which is just crazy, but it was my life for 23, 24 years.
2:17
I'm from New Hampshire originally, so I grew up in New Hampshire primarily playing soccer and ice hockey, and then ice hockey – kind of allowed me, I think, some opportunities on the college side to go to one of the best universities out there, primarily for women's ice hockey programs at the time.
2:38
It was either Ivy League or Minnesota, Minnesota Duluth or Wisconsin.
2:42
And that was it.
2:43
There were really only about 15 women's programs.

8 MINS LATER

10:47
So what is it like to have your partner that embedded in everything you're doing here?
6:11
Uh-huh.
6:12
I don't think a number of those were necessarily fitness or how I was training, but certainly not what I was hoping for.
6:18
Um, that being said, um, I finished UTMB last year, like [laughs] barely.
6:25
But I, I got it done, and I went home, and I was like, "Okay, um, '23 and '24, I feel like I had some solid results, um, just probably coming off my triathlon fitness and triathlon training." And so at the end of last year, not being that stoked with how it went, I was like, "Okay, I need to probably get some guidance, some help." Um, so I actually started working with your friend.
6:48
I didn't realize.
6:48
[laughs] Um, I started working with Luke Nelson last September.
10:04
So, like, I don't know if there's anything there that would be fun to talk about, about, like, just maintaining that flexibility over such a long career across different sports.
10:13
Oh, thank you.
