Sophie AshdownGUEST

So sometimes I get given a bit of a spec of like, so coming year, especially for like some supermarket kind of stuff and what they're going to be after.
Sophie AshdownGUEST
24:07
So at the moment, one of the ones I've got is just like a hazy New England IPA and making it affordable as well and easy to do every single time to make everything consistent.
Sophie AshdownGUEST
24:18
So sometimes I get given that kind of spec already.
Sophie AshdownGUEST
24:20
And then for some beers, I get told we want a stout or a New England IPA and I've got a little bit more leeway because it's going to be a seasonal beer so I can kind of have a bit more of a play with it and put some funky stuff in some hops that I've wanted to try or the women in beer collab that I've recently done for the festival this week Um, I kind of came up with a recipe all by myself.
Sophie AshdownGUEST
24:53
Um, oh, it makes me sound like a big girl.
Sophie AshdownGUEST
25:02
I came up with a recipe and it was, I wanted to do something a bit different to what we normally do.
Chris FarmandHOST
38:42
Draft pour.
Chris FarmandHOST
38:45
One, two is our main event, Hazy IPA,
Eric RutaGUEST
38:48

Chris FarmandHOST
38:50
Oh,
JeffHOST
43:29
I was just like, this is not for me.
JeffHOST
43:31
Um, josh you see this they're calling this a new england hazy lies yeah i mean this is this is a a lager with chill haze if i'm being generous uh maybe there's some sediment in the bottom but uh what's up cuz it's it's it's real good really like this one um Struggling to find what hops they used.
JeffHOST
43:59
It's from Loza Farms, which I want to say maybe that was what that beer that I got from Cellar Maker.
WellsHOST
44:09
That
JeffHOST
44:44
I'm sure the Spokeboys were terribly upset to have this on tap fresh at the brewery from Spokane.
JeffHOST
44:52
This is Uprise Brewing's Sabro Fresh Hop.
JeffHOST
44:58
This one also claims to be a hazy New England.
JeffHOST
45:03
That one's a little more hazy.
JoeHOST
1:55
You know, this thing has allowed us to talk to people like we talked to Shane from Bald Baster Brewing.
JoeHOST
2:01
He was in England.
JoeHOST
2:02
And then we've been down to South America.
JoeHOST
2:04
We've been to Australia, Canada.
JoeHOST
2:20
Great Britain.
JoeHOST
2:21
You said you're in Taunton, which is south of Wales? It is in Great Britain.
JoeHOST
2:26
It is in England, but you can
CarlGUEST
2:28
see
PaulHOST
4:30
Their breakfast stout, a coffee stout, was crowned category champion in specialty amber to dark for cask, while Shameless was the winner for IPA.
PaulHOST
4:44
They also took a silver in keg, non-alcoholic and low ABV for less is more mosaic and a bronze for dreamless, a New England hazy pale.
PaulHOST
4:56
Well, there you go.
PaulHOST
4:57
I mean, That's incredible.
Marshall SchottHOST
47:26
He says he thought it would be add some nice character to this rather basic beer.
Marshall SchottHOST
47:29
So the yeast he used for this, Craig, is probably the most popular yeast used for modern hazy IPA.
Marshall SchottHOST
47:37
even though it's not a hazy IPA.
Marshall SchottHOST
47:40
And then he also sent us a couple of cans that we're going to drink in the next episode.
Marshall SchottHOST
47:43
So we'll put this back in here like that, and then that can go back in the fridge when you get a minute.
Marshall SchottHOST
48:13
So here, okay.
Marshall SchottHOST
48:15
I'm not going to say, I'm not going to do descriptors because I want you guys to do that.
Marshall SchottHOST
48:19
This, that yeast, I have used several times before Hazy IPA was a thing.
JamalHOST
56:24
And if people are really big into beer and more particularly the craft beer scene, they may have heard of The Alchemist already.
JamalHOST
56:31
Obviously, it's a local brewery, but they are really famous for their New England Hazy IPA and almost created the craft beer scene for the New England Hazy IPA on the East Coast.
JamalHOST
56:44
And they have a beer that's ranked one of the best beers in the world called Hetty Topper.
JamalHOST
56:51
And they don't really distribute outside of Vermont.
Will PerryGUEST
9:44
That's definitely our number one seller.
Will PerryGUEST
9:45
And it kind of alternates for number two between our Hefeweizen and our Hazy IPA, which is all Strata.
Will PerryGUEST
9:52
It's called Dragon Rock.
Will PerryGUEST
9:54
But those are the most accessible probably and most often purchased beers.
Dan HolwayHOST
37:09
yeah and anytime a 19 percenter comes in at number one i'm kind of excited about it um now let's talk about the number two drop uh because you know we the list is always u.s breweries and sometimes u.s breweries collab with breweries outside of the u.s and that is the case with the number two drop tell us about it
ChaseGUEST
37:32
for sure yeah i've seen these uh Shelton with uh they collabed with Brasserie Dubois Canada on Gantapede it looks like uh I'm assuming a play on Centipede there but double New England IPA eight percenter um and it was at a 4.68 when we profiled it it's dropped a little bit but still at a 4.62 on 46 ratings
Dan HolwayHOST
37:57
And that's a good amount of ratings.
Dan HolwayHOST
37:59
For sure, yeah.
ChaseGUEST
38:11
Yeah, brew host with Oniero.
ChaseGUEST
38:14
Yeah, I'm guessing that's Oniero.
ChaseGUEST
38:18
Yeah, 10%er, triple New England IPA.
ChaseGUEST
38:20
It's at a 4.66, and it's still at 4.6%.
Dave DHOST
28:52
You can definitely tell when there's real fruit involved and when it's extracts and all this.
Dave DHOST
28:57
I... to be honest it really annoys me now like you said Burning Sky are a great example we had Little Earth Project who sadly no longer brewing they were great as well those are the sort of sours I want to drink right let's open the New England Dave you didn't hold back on the nectar on
EddGUEST
29:12
this I would say no I didn't this is the so I've got a few in this series you've got Univect haven't you
Dave BHOST
29:18
Yeah, so this is Magnum, Simcoe and Nectarum.
EddGUEST
31:44
But actually, they also bring this lovely juiciness that you get.
EddGUEST
31:48
You know, the oats, the wheat will give that as well.
EddGUEST
31:50
so this one yeah i've changed it and all of them now i basically do the aroma so a big whirlpool of the the more piney resin so in this case simcoe so eigenvector is citra galaxy so galaxy brings the resin citra brings the kind of juice at the end and then tangent vector is mosaic playing the kind of resin and then crush which some people love i think it's a slight divisive hop but yeah I love Nectaron so it's Simcoe's now kind of the bittering so it goes in as a late edition but it's in the whirlpool and then it's a really big but yeah as I say what I learn a lot about the hop oils is you don't I think a kilo of hops something like 30 ml of hop oil because you're trying to get the oils out of the hops essentially but you also then have a huge amount of waste product that comes out but you need enough waste product to be able to suspension to give it the mouthfeel so this is kind of 50-50 so there's and you end up adding more hops essentially or more hop oils into it so yeah i'm i'm really happy with the iteration this and this is something i have really enjoyed that i didn't get on the homebrew scale and i probably don't get from just brewing loads of one-off beers is i think this is the third iteration of univector i think it's got better and better each time the first one had the flavor it was too thin you then adapt it and stuff but yeah essentially that's yeah it's it's a kind of classical new england base loads of oats loads of wheat
Dave DHOST
33:07
plenty of kind of mouthful there i I'll tell you what comes across really well in everything you've said so far about your different beers.
