Hazael

And the Lord said, For three impious acts of Damascus, and for four I will not turn away from him, because they were sawing pregnant women of those in Galad, asunder with iron saws.

And I will send forth a fire on the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the foundations of the son of Hadar.

and I will break the gate bars of Damascus, and utterly destroy inhabitants from the plain of On.

the lord proclaims thus

The king said to Hazael.

Take a present with you and go to meet the man of God.

And inquire of the Lord through him saying.

Shall I recover from this sickness? So Hazael went to meet him.

took a present with him, all kinds of goods of Damascus, 40 camel loads.

When he came and stood before him, he said, your son Ben-Hadad, king of Syria, has sent me to you saying, shall I recover from this sickness? And Elisha said to him, go say to him, you shall certainly recover.

And he fixed his gaze and stared at him until he was embarrassed.

Go back the way you came to the wilderness of Damascus.

There, you are to anoint Hazael as king over Aram.

You are to anoint Jehu, son of Nimshi, as king over Israel, and Elisha, son of Shaphat, from Abel-Meholah, as prophet in your place.

Jehu will put to death anyone who escapes the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death anyone who escapes the sword of Jehu.

But I will leave seven thousand in Israel, every knee that has not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.

This is a message of judgment as much as restoration.

Hazael, king to be of Aram, and Jehu, the king to be of Israel, both of them are going to do a lot of killing.

They will punish the apostasy of Israel.

And the Lord said unto him, go return on the way to the wilderness of Damascus.

And when you come, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.

And Jehu of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel.

And Elisha, the son of Shaphat, of Abel, me-ho-lah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
