Story one of The Scottish Fairy Book.

There are areas of the country that did not get the bus services that were promised.

A place like Hawick, for example, really poorly served by transport and has been since the reopened borders rail.

We only went as far as Tweed Bank, just like the Galley Shields.

And there's still a huge idea that that line should extend at least to Hawick and should never have closed, certainly between Hawick and Edinburgh.

So areas like that that certainly suffered.

Certainly areas like the Ashington line I mentioned earlier that should probably never have closed, that have reopened to huge success, far more success than anyone had envisaged, just reopened again last year.

well the biggest winning gap was at Mansfield Park have to say a good win for GHA it's a tough place to go Ian Mansfield Park

yeah it certainly is um It's a tough one for Hawick, they're a positive performance away to air the week before and you're thinking yep this is us starting to pick things up and that's a really disappointing result for them and it takes this week into serious consideration because they're away to Hawks so after just squeaking through against Kelso you think a couple of results like that where they've shown a bit of character and then they've gone out and been fairly comprehensively beaten.

by a GHA team and I appreciate they're a young side there's new players coming in and bedding in but they'll be disappointed in that I would think

Kelso versus Ayr a good result you would think on paper for Kelso they're still disappointed they didn't beat Ayr but they did get two bonus points and there's not many teams who will get two bonus points against Ayr

We were delighted with the win at the weekend and it was great to build on the week before with the win against Edinburgh Hockey's at home.

Hawick is a really challenging place to go and we've had some really tight fixtures against them in recent seasons.

They were a big physical side with an experienced pack and they have some really strong ball carries across their squad.

So let's begin with a look at last week's results in the Prem.

Ayr 33, Hawick 3.

Currie 32, Melrose 27.

GHA 38, Edinburgh Academics 12.

Glasgow Hawks 19, Watsonians 36.

And Heriot's 57, Kelso 12.

Now, Ayr were leading 7-3 at halftime against Hawick, but added 26 points to nothing in the second period.

Melrose were in front at Millennie before a late score gave Currie the points.

Yeah.

So we'll start at the top with Ayr hosted Hawick, and they won 33-3, which is actually...

We'll, we'll dig into that, but that's actually a pretty respectable score-

... considering, especially considering round one when Hawick got absolute, an absolute doing at Goldenacre to then go-

... over to, to Ayr and lose by 30 points and, you know, clutching at straws to say that's not bad, but, you know, it could've been a lot worse.

What are your kind of views across the board then for that round of, of the Prem?

oh yeah we certainly can be a little bit fussy about it yeah that's like all words if you never actually hear somebody say them you don't know how they're pronounced really do you

Hawick 29, Kelso 28.

Melrose 50, Glasgow Hawks 12.

And Watsonians 25, GHA 23.

Because we said beforehand, you know, we're all looking at Ayr as, again, the team to beat.

These are the two most likely contenders.

I quite fancied Heriot's after their big win against Hawick, um, but, you know, as a couple of Heriot's guys said to me at the time, "Next week will be the real test of where we're at." And it turns out Currie, who did that without Ed Hazeldell, who's a big player for them.

Is that right? He was, I think he was missing, so-

So growing up in Langholm, uh, just up the road's Hawick.

Now Hawick's-

... got a long list of professionals, of internationals, of British and Irish Lions, people that have made a big dent in the game.

Um, so, nah, he, he, that was sort of like hear the stories of like Langholm's not a great club in terms of like how it's viewed.

Talk about Hector Sorrell, I understand the sort of history going back a long time.

But, um, got to the age of, uh, under 16s and I played for Langholm on a Saturday and played for Hawick Albion on a Sunday, and then the opportunity was there to go play for Hawick Wanderers.
