In fact, I've never even heard the Conservatives mention the Centre Mountain Chiana First Nation Business Park development, which, by the way, we've been talking about in terms of Lankford's development considerations on the show recently.

I hear all sorts of people, oh, Hatley Castle, what if we have to pay money to Indigenous nations ongoing forever for that land to stay? Oh, a parking lot in the Inner Harbour, what if we have to pay money on an ongoing basis forever to Indigenous nations because of the prospect of a land transfer? Okay, that's fine, but what about Centre Mountain? Is that really the end of the world? 2017, it's not even in the Wayback Machine.

You can still look at the reconciliation agreement that the Langford Council of the day considered among the various provisions there.

And it was treaty lands that were primarily identified under the Tramuck Treaty process, the same process everybody's screaming about when it comes to Hatley Castle, when it comes to the parking lot in the Inner Harbour.

It was lands that were identified in that process that were part of the land transfer process.

between the three entities, the Chiana First Nation, Michozen, and Langford.

All sorts of really scary things have been said about the modern treaty process and the discourse recently.

We've heard all sorts of concerns about Hatley Castle, about a parking lot.

in the inner harbor and i at the time said you know this is old news to a lot of us it was called the tamuk treaty association that's a hulquenum word it means land five nations are part of it songhees uh chiana nation as well as sauk nation those are the local ones sanana as is there as well i don't have the list in front of me oh yeah and of course malahat nation my apologies to malahat don't want to forget about you as well And among the things that flowed from that modern treaty process was a land swap between Michoos and Langford and the Chiana First Nation that involved lands that were identified preliminarily in the process.

They weren't actually treaty settlement lands because nothing got that far.

Oh, by the way, the Hatley Castle thing, my understanding is that Hatley Castle would remain a public asset, but there would be some money transferred from the Crown to the Indigenous rights holders for that land if it ended up getting transferred in order to keep it a truly public asset.

Well, okay.

Like, there's only five nations in the Tumuk Treaty Association, and one of them is Chiana for this business park.

The other one is Songhees, and that's where we get talk about the parking lot in the Inner Harbor and Hatley Castle.

But it's the same modern treaty process.

And nobody's mentioning the part where it went well while at the same time fixating on what they worry might be parts that might go poorly.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any faults with this.

But, you know, I guess you might try, but I don't think that you will find much.

Sure, it's always easy to hypothesize about bad things happening in the future, and maybe that will happen with the Hatley Castle.

Maybe that will happen with the parking lot in the Inner Harbour.
