HathiTrust

I was there when it happened.

I went to the first convention of HathiTrust, which was held in Washington, D.C., and we did the constitution for HathiTrust at that meeting.

But the smart thing that we did was we said, okay, Google, you can digitize these books, but you have to give us the files.

And that became HathiTrust.

And a bit of an overstatement, but because of the sort of grassroot in cooperation with Google, of course, Google deserves some credit for, you know, don't be evil.

Well, sometimes they are.

atrocious anyway they had a copy So yeah, you sort of gather them here and there.

I knew that a novel was seriously obscure when neither Gutenberg nor the HathiTrust websites or anybody else could come up with a copy.

There's a novel from the 1790s that crops up in a lot of bibliographies and general surveys of 1790s novels by Charlotte Palmer.

She's a woman called Charlotte Palmer.
