Hassan ibn Thabit

Another hadith, and we'll come in close to a close, inshallah.

This is Hassan ibn Thabit, radiallahu anhu.

So the Prophet, as reported, have said, and this is, by the way, it's also a Hassan, a mediocre hadith in its authenticity.

A more authentic hadith is where the Prophet makes dua for Hassan Allah support Hassan with al-Ruh al-Quds Who is al-Ruh al-Quds? Now he was not someone who was well known for his military strength.

He saw what was the talent of each and everyone and he put them on that line.

So he saw that Hasan ibn Thabit was a poet.

Now in an age where you needed people to defend Islam, so there was great... respect and dignity given to people who are mujahids, people who are brave.

The poets have used a beautiful verse to describe the Rasul ﷺ.

Hassan ibn Thabit, for example, used this.

a poetry to describe the beauty of rasulullah but it was also the hadith scholars that they tried to capture the beauty of rasulullah as is described by the companions of rasulullah Imam Qurtubi states that the true extent of the depth of the beauty of Rasulullah ﷺ was not disclosed to us in this world.

Had it been revealed in its truest extent, our eyes would not be able to bear this sight.

Among the companions of our beloved Nabi al-Karim ﷺ, there were many who were distinguished with excellence, distinctions, and superiority in certain matters.

Some of them were excellent in poetry, such as Hassan ibn Thabit.

Others were excellent in understanding and comprehending, like Abdullah ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and the Prophet, may Allah be pleased with him, made dua for his understanding of the Qur'an.

Others were excellent in solving disputes, such as Ali, may Allah be pleased with him.

And also, just to continue with it, how Nabi ﷺ treated the different types of people, right? So, one of them was And I think this is such a great lesson.

And maybe it'll be a good way to end the program.

So, Hassan ibn Thabit was someone who used to recite poetry.

Now, in an era where there was such great emphasis upon people who had physical strength, because Islam needed it at that time, because there were so much attacks against Islam.

Many Muslims who wrote at the peak of their career, so they would write books, about the Prophet, right? What we call qasidas, you know, about the Prophet.

And usually, so in Arabic it says, attributed to the Prophet, the Prophet's poet, Hassan ibn Sabit, he says, and that kind of many scholars, they also mention it in Ottoman literature, Nursi too.

So the phrase is, وَمَا مَدَحْتُ مُحَمَّدًا وَلَكِن مَدَحْتُ مَقَالَتِ بِمُحَمَّدٍ So meaning that I did not praise the Prophet's with my work, but rather my work gained value by talking about it.

Now, if this was something that wasn't important, the Prophet ﷺ said, let them say what they're saying.

But the Prophet ﷺ commissioned Hassan ibn Thabit and others, Hassan ibn Thabit, he said, أُجُمُوا Respond to them.

Respond to them with poetry back.

Respond to the narrative that is being made about us.

And the Ruhul Quddus will be helping you.

The Holy Spirit which is Jibreel will be inspiring you.

In fact, Hassan ibn Thabit was given a mimbar in Masjid al-Dabawi.

A separate mimbar in which you would then say it's poetry, and that poetry would then spread, go viral.
