Hart's War

With regards to prisoners of war, the Gestapo had no hesitation in executing those whom they considered a threat to their camps or their guards.

These accounts have been documented and portrayed in films such as Hart's War and The Great Escape, the latter being the true account of the Stalag Luft III murders.

These were a set of war crimes perpetrated by members of the Gestapo following the story of the Great Escape of Allied prisoners of war from the German Air Force prison camp known as Stalag Luft III on March 25th, 1944.

It is noted that of the 76 successful escapees, 73 were recaptured, 50 of whom were executed on the personal orders of Adolf Hitler.
