Jets of flame shoot out in all directions to carry the glorious message of combustion to all parts.

And so that is tightly connected with Harry Ricardo all those years ago.

And the second thing that he fell in love with was the sleeve valve.

And they looked around for another way of admitting and releasing gas from the cylinders.

And they hit upon Harry Ricardo's turbulent side valve.

Side valve is flathead.

The valves, instead of being on top of the engine with their stems pointing up, were next to the cylinder with their stems pointing down.
