Harry Goodsir

He's not a likeable character in the book, but weirdly more sympathetic in the TV series.

And the third most important character, I think, is the surgeon Harry Goodsir, Dr Harry Goodsir, although he's often referred to as Mr Goodsir because a surgeon is of lower rank than a doctor.

And he provides this narrative in diary form and in the first person.

So he's the most sympathetic character.

In May and July 1845, you've got the preparations.

There's Franklin meeting the Admiralty in Chapter 2.

You've also got a diary entry by Harry Goodsir.

Then in the winter of 1845-1846, you also get Goodsir's account of the winter.
