Well, not long after that, MPs moved on to the vote, and in a turnaround from last year's result in which MPs backed the idea of assisted dying, the Commons rejected the bill by a majority of 16.

Well, to discuss that, I'm joined by our political correspondent, Harry Farley, who's been following this debate very closely, and it was really a quite extraordinary result, Harry.

Absolutely extraordinary.

Last time MPs voted on this at the third reading, uh, last year, those in favor had a majority of 23.

The report was released last night on the eve of Reform's annual conference in Birmingham.

This conference was supposed to be a chance for Nigel Farage, a chance to move on from a difficult summer dominated by questions about money, a chance to discuss what Reform would do if they were to win power, a chance to shift the conversation to immigration and the cost of living.

Nigel Farage has lost that chance.

The two leaders also discussed scaling up efforts to tackle illegal migration, the Ukraine war and the conflict in the Middle East.

Reform wants to put a difficult summer behind it.

Oman has long been a US ally in the Middle East, often facilitating talks between America and Iran, but President Trump is now threatening to bomb the shit out of them if Oman gets in the way of his own administration's dealings with Iran.

President Trump was speaking in a phone call with a Fox News correspondent.

Oman has been negotiating with Iran to try to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials have said they're close to finalizing a deal regarding a transit route for international shipping, and it's not clear what President Trump thinks would constitute getting in the way of his ambitions for a deal.

Hamas has accepted the proposal, which calls for its gradual disarmament as Israeli troops withdraw from about half of Gaza that they still occupy.

But Mr. Netanyahu insists there'll be no pullback until Hamas has been completely disarmed.

There are no signs of a breakthrough after the meeting, as our Middle East correspondent Lucy Williamson reports from Jerusalem.

Mr. Netanyahu's office said it had been agreed to establish two working groups, one on sanitation and clean water for Gaza, and one on disarmament and demilitarization, which it said both Israel and the Board of Peace were determined should be completed before any reconstruction happens.

He said he will not be humiliated standing next to nobodies after what he claims is a resounding win.

But the Reform Party, who are still at the count, have gone on to tell our reporter Harry Farley that Essex Police had warned of a credible threat to Nigel Farage, and that's why he was not attending.
