Harrison Hot Springs

Well, I was just, I mean, as we know, I was just in British Columbia like a week or two ago and I'd never been to mainland British Columbia along the coast.

I've been to Harrison Hot Springs when we filmed the show.

But, you know, when you're filming a show, you're kind of tethered to the production and you can't get out very far.

And other than that, I've been to Vancouver Island twice.

Like the coast there is where the highway is, you know, just right on the cliffs of the coast.

And it's gorgeous, of course.

But once you're in Squamish, you you know, I needed to get to Harrison hot springs and there was no, Oh, there was no pass to get me over except for weird forest roads that you couldn't rely on being even open.

You know, I had to go all the way back down to Vancouver and around, you know, whereas if there was a highway going over the, the, the ridges, it could have been there much, much sooner.

There's an office in Vancouver that's staffed by the city of Vancouver.

There's an office, well, okay, I'm not sure that there's an office in Harrison Hot Springs, but somewhere there's a chief electoral officer for Harrison Hot Springs.

And about an hour and a half from me is Harrison Hot Springs.

which is the epicenter of Sasquatch sightings anywhere in the world.

And I went there and I started interviewing people.

I used to be an event and wedding photographer and then I turned to pet photography and I started a series called Jason Kenzie's Amazing Animal Adventures and it was like a video vlog of behind the scenes of my animal adventures and I would travel all over North America and I would interview people that live with pets like exotic pets, not just dogs and cats but monkeys and tigers and bears, kangaroos, alligators, giant snakes, huge spiders, you name it, everything in between, foxes, bobcats.

And when 2019 rolled around and the world shut down, I wasn't able to do any more of my animal adventures and because I live in Vancouver, Canada, I'm very close to Harrison Hot Springs which is only about an hour and a half from where I live and I was sitting around a campfire with my friend and I'm venting to him about not being able to do any more of my animal adventures.

I'm like what am I going to do? How am I going to pay my bills? I was like oh and my buddy you know said to me kind of as a joke well why don't you look at the Sasquatch? Maybe he's an animal and so we laughed and then I took a step back and thought gee you know you might be on to something.

Maybe Sasquatch is an animal of some kind so I'm going to go and look into it and I already knew a couple people who said they've seen one of these creatures so I went and interviewed them and in turn they showed me they turned me to the First Nations people and I interviewed some of them and they really believed but they call them Sasquatch people and they pointed me out in this area in the mountains and I went and interviewed some more people.

I have the privilege of pastoring here in Harrison Hot Springs.

They've all heard this joke before, but if you're new, you haven't.

Because there's only one church in Harrison, I am both the best and worst pastor in town.

Well, across the province, we've seen several councils descend into complete chaos.

That was the case in Harrison Hot Springs for a while.

I think it's been a problem in Kamloops where, and there was a problem on the North Island where councils quite small descend into complete dysfunction because of arguments between the chief administrative officer and the mayor across various lines.

And it can be very, very destructive.

And, and part of what makes UBCM, I think putting, bringing people together and bringing these tools together is what makes UBCM so important and effective, I think.

Yeah.

Well, on the, uh, on the standards of conduct thing that you raised, Jeff, I mean, uh, Harrison Hot Springs is a great example of a community that kind of fell apart over dysfunction between, I think it was the mayor and the staff and the rest of council.

I hope the province, you know, does not enable, you know, that package of whatever regulations they're planning to bring in or laws to do that, to have it weaponized for political reasons, you know, where between opponents on council, because I mean, we'll very easily see one side of the council complaining about the integrity of the other side and back and forth and You know, investigations are very damaging for elected officials.

You have all these, these different Bigfoot locations you've been to, but I got to ask you, what is the most freaked out you've been? Because you were going to so many places that I look at these place names and I'm just going to go down them real quick.

Bluff Creek, Mount St. Helens, Blue Mountain, Nordegg, Alberta, Mount Hood, Harrison Hot Springs, BC Olympics, Ho Rainforest, Gifford Pinchot, Vancouver Island.

I mean, there's some freaky, freaky places and you're out there by yourself for the most part, right?
