The Liberation

This one I saw at TIFF.

It's called The Liberation.

Oh, yeah.

Anything you know about this one?

It was one of her first performances.

Okay.

The reason I bring that up is because the movies I thought about most while watching The Liberation are The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Excellent.

Okay.

Uh, and then The Liberation has some, some, uh, I think Tracy Letts is in that.

And, uh, that looks like a...

So I don't know.

that's gonna be i'll be i'll be the the biggest spokesperson for that if and when this ever happens which you know maybe never but you know

yeah i missed i missed the tapes i missed the panels okay let's move on because we don't have too much time today um so look i thought we'd just go quickly to what we're watching before we then talk about the oscars because i'm very excited to hear what you guys have to say so just very briefly i'll start um i saw a film called The Liberation the other day starring Carrie Coon.

And she is extraordinary.

Surprise, surprise.

Um, I put Carrie Coon on here for, oh my God, I forgot the title of the movie.

The Liberation.

The Liberation.

[laughs]

Mm-hmm.

This is the 10th slot.

It's a real like I don't know how this movie's going to pop, but I think for a lot of these actresses who might be the sole nominees for their movies, it is a question of like can they get it in front of people? And we might not know until the Globes nominations or Critics Choice nominations come out if these movies have the staying power.

But I think they'll, if people see The Liberation, if people have liked Carrie Coon on The Gilded Age, that they would see this and be impressed with her.

What did I just...

Oh, yeah, because they were both in The Liberation.

No.

Bella Ramsey's in The Liberation.

Maisie

Stella was in The Man I Love.

You never know.

Academy Award-winning short filmmaker Guy Nativ's The Liberation features a Holocaust survivor, New Jersey assistant bank manager Rita, who's played by Carrie Coon.

I don't know if you know Carrie Coon, but I think she's great.

Like many frustrated middle-aged women in the early 1980s, she finds solace in a different company, joining a women's group and getting in touch with a deeper sense of self.

And yeah, Kat Sandler, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us.

yes I know Carrie-Anne Moss was definitely my biggest my favorite performance from those first two episodes she is outstanding as she always is but uh her character is also very intriguing I'm so like you said I'm so excited to just see how this all unfolds because there's so many things going on in my head when I think about this show I'm like I don't know who's connecting to who and what's going on I'm so excited to figure it out same same agreed Well, another one I think that you and I had a very strong reaction to was The Liberation, going on back into the film realm.

We saw the Canadian premiere of this one, I believe it was.

It stars Carrie Coon and Lily James.

So that's very interesting to consider.

Also, I would definitely keep Carrie Coon and The Liberation on your radar.

Is that getting released this year? Well, I mean, I don't know officially, but until we know otherwise, let's just say it is, maybe.

Okay.
