Harding University

I don't want to be too hard here as we transition into Division II, but they went to class, they studied up, and then they failed the test.

Henderson State undefeated, taking on Harding, who has looked vulnerable at times, but not a very competitive game on Saturday between these two titans, or so we thought, I guess, in the GAC.

Well, that shows you the separation between the top two or three teams in America and the 15th ranked team in America, particularly at home.

Big home crowd.

Got after it.

It was never really competitive.

Harding rushed for over 400 yards in this game.

Couldn't stop him.

So tell us your story here.

Well, grew up in Mississippi, graduated from Pearl High School, went off, played college football at a junior college and at Harding University, came back.

My high school coach was the first person to give me a job, which was awesome.

I get to go back to my high school.

You know, it wasn't just, "I think everybody could do a better job of singing here." It was, you know, for the purpose that they were there.

Wanting to continue his education at a Christian college, Botham attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.

Despite being thousands of miles from his home in Saint Lucia, Botham's mother said he would go home every year while in college to show his friends and classmates where he came from and to volunteer at the local orphanage.

His parents said he also called every Sunday, which is nice, too.

Oh, that's so sweet.

It was at Harding University that he also met Alexis Stolzel, and the two quickly became best friends.

In later testimony, Stolzel said-

"Next to my husband, Botham was my absolute person."

Yeah, no doubt.

All right, let's flip over to Division II, Coach, and Harding doing Harding things.

Henderson State sitting undefeated as well right now.

Yeah, you know, Harding was only up 14-7 in the third quarter, uh, of their game against, uh, East Central.

East Central's a good team, particularly at home.

But they did pull away late.

Um, defensively they've given up a lot of points but, goodness gracious, they're scoring about 45 a game.

Mm-hmm.

Gary Burton Jr.

The former Dallas police officer convicted of killing a Harding University graduate in his Texas apartment has been granted parole with three years left on her 10-year sentence.

Amber Geiger says she thought Botham John, an accountant from St. Lucia, was an intruder in her apartment when she shot him.

but she had mistakenly entered John's apartment.
