Now, many people across the country live in hard water areas, and they know the struggle of descaling the kettle or going through bottles of washing up liquid, washing their dishes to create a bit of suds.

What effect does hard water have on your hair and scalp health? And are the trending shower head filters worth the hype? Joining me now is Sarah Cummins, a trichologist with TRUA.

Good evening to you, Sarah.

Um, first of all, yeah, what effect does hard water have on your hair? We know what it does to the inside of your washing machine a- a- and your kettle.

Is it something similar?

Oh, it is.

It's, uh, we're seeing it getting more and more calls and more and more issues, but hard water contains higher levels of dissolved minerals, particularly calcium and magnesium.

right picture this you've finished the first fix on a new build kitchen everything's neat everything's tested customers happy 18 months later you get a call back to the same house but the combi's throwing an overheat lockout the kettle in the kitchen sounds like a jet engine every time it boils the shower head the one you fitted brand new is spitting sidewards because half of the holes are blocked Nothing you've fit is failed, nothing you've done is wrong.

The house is just sitting in a hard water area and the water itself has been quietly attacking everything you installed since the day you left.

And here's why it matters more than people think.

Because on the job, in an actual UK home, in an actual hard water area, this is the difference between a system that lasts 20 years and a system that's third up.

and knackered by year five.

And it's a community well, so we have no control over it.

The water is tested high for calcium and very hard water.

And some of our neighbors around have put in tank water heaters, but they have to change the anode in it every three weeks because of the hardness of the water.
