Haran

The Promise to Abraham At Haran, in the midst of a wicked world, there lived a good man named Abram.

He was chosen to carry on the knowledge of the true God, whom others had forgotten.

Therefore God called Abram and said to him, Abram, leave your country and go to the land of Canaan.

Therefore he called his faithful servant, Eliezer, and said, Go to the country from where I came, and from among my people bring a wife for my son Isaac.

In preparation for the journey, Eliezer had loaded ten camels with rich gifts.

Then he departed for Haran, in Mesopotamia, the place where Abraham had lived before he went to Canaan.

Upon arriving in Haran, Eliezer made his camels lie down near a well, where each evening the women came to draw water he begged god to let him know which of the women should be isaac's bride eliza prayed when i say to the one whom you want isaac to marry let down your pitcher that i may drink please make her answer drink and i will give your camels drink also In this way I shall be sure that I have chosen right.

Quite strangely, he said, okay.

So he takes his whole family and his nephew, Lot, and they leave Ur of the Chaldeans, Haran where he lived, and moved out and began to journey through as the Lord led him step by step into the land called

Canaan.

All right, which is today, this little strip of land where you see Israel.

Of course, some of us will say, God, if you are so God, you could have done it when I was 50 or something.

Why wait till I'm 100? I guess always God chooses the miracle that His name might be glorified.

So 25 years from the day the promise of moving out from Ur of Haran into Canaan and finally having a child at 100.

Wow,

She had no offspring, and God afterward remembered Aphlalith, the wife of Dan, and she conceived and bare a son, and she called his name Chushim.

And Gad and Naphtali went to Haran and took from thence the daughters of Amuram, the son of Uz, the son of Nahor, for wives.

And these are the names of the daughters of Amuram.

The name of the elder was Merima, and the name of the younger was Uzeth.

Note, in doubtful cases it is very comfortable to see God leading us as he led Israel in the wilderness by the pillar of cloud and fire.

Subscript 5, he thinks himself very happy and owns God in it that he was led to the house of his master's brethren, those of them that had come out of Ur of the Chaldees, though they had not come to Canaan but remained in Haran.

They were not idolaters but worshippers of the true God and inclinable to the religion of Abraham's family.

Note, God is to be acknowledged in providing suitable yoke fellows, especially such as are agreeable in religion.

And these words of Esau his elder son were told to Rebekah.

And she sent and called Jacob her younger son and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.

Now therefore, my son, obey my voice, and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran, and tarry with him a few days until thy brother's fury turn away, until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him.

Then I will send and fetch thee from thence.

He took all his family, and with them his father, Terah, who was very old, and his wife, whose name was Sarai, and his brother Nahor and his wife, and another brother's son, whose name was Lot.

For Lot's father, Haran, who was the younger brother of Abram, had died before this time.

And Abram took all that he had, his tents, and his flocks of sheep, and herds of cattle, and went forth on a long journey to a land of which he did not even know the name.

He journeyed far up the great river Euphrates to the mountain region, until he came to a place called Haran, in a country called Mesopotamia.

The word Mesopotamia means between the rivers, and this country was between the two great rivers Tigris and Euphrates.

At Haran they all stayed for a time.

Perhaps they stopped there because Terah, the father of Abram, was too old to travel further, for they stayed at Haran until Terah died.

After the death of Terah his father, Abram again went on his journey, and Lot, his brother's son, went with him.
