Are we going to hear a lot of the new stuff and the new kind of more upbeat disco-y stuff? Are we going to get some River and Beyond and then Steam is probably my absolute favorite from you.
L

Yeah.
L

That was preceded by neo-soul music from Leon Bridges out of Texas.
M
21:39Mark FentonHOST
He's usually popular, and I found this song, the title track from his brand-new album, Happiness Anytime.
M
21:44Mark FentonHOST
And I thought it was a good break from that high-energy rock and roll that preceded it, including Adult DVD, another British band from London.
M

Dance punks, just released their self-titled album, and we heard the short and sweet little number, The Steaks Are High.

I'm a big fan, so, you know, I would say this anyway, but listen, what was your state of mind when doing this album? Because there's something quite optimistic about it, right?
L
44:47Leon BridgesGUEST
Yeah, I was honestly just in a place of, of, of just self-love and, and, and just inner peace, you know.

audrey pound bodies of water one of my favorite jazz musicians in the past couple of years um loved the first project um uh from the fire i really enjoyed that actually was that first project was that first album no oh yeah that was the first album did i miss her album last year oh no oh well marty hicks was a collab album okay there you go but this is her second album from her um, and yeah, just a continuation of just what she had previously, um, just these really silky, really just, uh, you know, warm, embracing, uh, uh, instrumentation, her voice, beautiful, uh, voice, beautiful vocals throughout, and, uh, yeah, it's just a really, really good project, really just, like, nice, um, smooth, jazzy project, um, so yeah, shout out to Audrey Pound, Leon Bridges with Happiness Anytime, if you know me, you know I've loved me some Leon Bridges ever since his first album, I've always enjoyed his work, and yeah, this is more of the same, well, I say that, more of the same, but I don't know, it just feels, this feels a little bit of, it feels like his most contemporary work yet, which considering, you know, he started off with like a more um i guess like a sam cook pastiche like he's you know he's come through the decades um very slowly started off very very very retro now he's come through to be a bit more uh on the contemporary side but yeah man i just i've always loved the vibe of leon bridges this is very summery uh which is ironic considering summer's you know pretty much fucked off at this point um shout out to lydia kitto um joshua lloyd watson and also uh i forgot all the boss man's name uh i think it was like mcfarlane or something i forget um but yeah basically shout out to jungle the group jungle because uh basically they've uh handle the production throughout this album and it makes sense.
C
9:24Charlie TaylorHOST
It just makes sense to me to have someone like Leon Bridges over a Jungle type production.
C
9:31Charlie TaylorHOST
It actually starts off very Latin-y which is kind of interesting but yeah it kind of reverts more back into traditional Jungle and their particular sound which is always warm, it's always summery.

Leon Bridges on New Album Grooves, “Happiness Anytime” & Sydney Opera House
L
0:30Leon BridgesGUEST
It's, um, you know, there's some rock and roll in there, and it's cool that, you know, that that stuff, like, really compels people to, to dance, you know.
L
0:37Leon BridgesGUEST
But I think a majority of my songs are, are ballads, and so that was the, the inspiration behind this new album, Happiness Anytime, just to be able to add more dance songs to my repertoire.
N
0:46Nic KellyHOST
I think the cool thing about you, man, is that even when you write a, a ballad, it still gets people up and about.
L
0:54Loren BarryHOST
Yeah.
L
5:05Leon BridgesGUEST
You know, I, I love, I love playing outdoors, you know, and so surreal to be playing the Opera House again.
L
5:11Leon BridgesGUEST
You know, I, I thought at a certain point in my career I might have reached the pinnacle, but it's, it's awesome that more amazing milestones are unfolding, you know, throughout all of it.
L
5:21Leon BridgesGUEST
And man, I'm stoked to bring Happiness Anytime, you know, to, to the Sydney Opera House.
N
