MLS Soccerwise | Who Can Make the MLS Playoffs?
M
26:57Matt DoylePANELIST
Like, this is a three-game week, three away games.
M
27:01Matt DoylePANELIST
They drew the first, um, which they, they really should've won, but, uh, Hany Mukhtar missed a, a point-blank, uh, chance against NYCFC.
M
27:09Matt DoylePANELIST
They lost late last night when they clearly had dead legs, and now they're at Miami for the weekend.
M
27:15Matt DoylePANELIST
Which, look, I still think Nashville's gonna win the Supporters' Shield.
Week of missed chances foreshadows trip to Miami
B
13:37Ben WrightGUEST
He had two chances, I think, that he should have scored.
B
13:40Ben WrightGUEST
And I think if Hany Mukhtar or Christian Espinosa or Warren Madrigal had the ball in that position, I think Nashville probably scored those.
B
13:48Ben WrightGUEST
The

keeper got both of them, right? The keeper did a pretty good job on both of
B
14:20Ben WrightGUEST
I still wonder about who the third goal scorer for this Nashville SC team is going to be.
B
14:25Ben WrightGUEST
I think probably Warren Modrigal makes the most sense just looking at what he's already done this year.
B
14:31Ben WrightGUEST
But Nashville will need a third player to step up because Hany Mukhtar is scoring consistently.
B
14:38Ben WrightGUEST
Christian Espinosa is setting things up consistently.
MLS Week 23 Review (2026) - A Thoroughly Crazy Weekend
R
7:05RussellHOST
They haven't added any notable players, and they didn't have players on their team that were like...
R
7:11RussellHOST
They didn't have a Hany Mukhtar, right? They didn't have like a, a consensus MLS MVP type guy on that team.
R
7:19RussellHOST
They've got a coach with hopes and dreams.
R
7:23RussellHOST
Not to take away from BJ Callaghan.

M

Christian, um, it could be matchup related too.
M
24:09Mike AndererHOST
Uh, you've got Hany Mukhtar, who's one of the most dangerous number 10s in the league, and we even saw it against New England, um, i- in the previous game.
M
24:18Mike AndererHOST
Uh, James Sands, uh, you know, getting the assignment of covering Carlos Heal.
M
24:23Mike AndererHOST
That's been one of Sands' uh, you know, strong points in the past.
M
28:05Mike AndererHOST
Uh, Christian, Matt Freese with three, uh, big saves in this game.
M
28:10Mike AndererHOST
And, uh, again, uh, let's talk about the, the big, um, the biggest moment in this game probably was the, uh, the moment where Freese, uh, and Gustavo get a miscommunication.
M
28:22Mike AndererHOST
Uh, and it's, uh, you know, the soccer gods just didn't want it to go in for Hany Mukhtar.

No.

On the Eastern Conference, I think it's pretty evident that Nashville is and should be number one.
C
31:33Carlos RamirezGUEST
They've had a tremendous season under B.J. Callahan and the signing of Christian Espinoza, what he's done with Sam Surich and Hany Mukhtar is just unrivaled right now in terms of three-headed monster attacks in MLS season.
C
31:47Carlos RamirezGUEST
So that would be one candidate in the Eastern Conference, along with that, of course, Inter-Miami.
C
31:54Carlos RamirezGUEST
The thing is, because of the format and the competition, I think Inter-Miami should be favored over everyone, at least in the Eastern Conference, because of the individual talent that they just accumulate.

Did Inter Miami Build Something That Can Actually Last?
T
17:22TomHOST
Maybe they could get... five or six Rodrigo de Paul level players, and then win MLS on the back of that.
T
17:28TomHOST
That's what Nashville SC have done, right? Sam Surridge, Hany Mukhtar, Christian Espinosa, Andy Nahut.
T
17:34TomHOST
Like, you're talking about really good footballers there.
C

So you're right.
Episode 434 - Union Continue to Fly Under Ryan Richter With Eighth Straight Game Unbeaten
J
21:57José NúñezHOST
There's no reason why those MLS clubs had any right to get some of that money it just makes absolutely no sense so the union basically throw money up in the wind to people that really didn't deserve it it's just happenstance that jack was born there raised there play soccer there whatever it was just makes no sense and i don't think it's a cba issue i think it's just a transfer rules uh issue um though i wonder if the cba can be more strict about you know where where some of these payments go or it can be sort of a maneuver that they use to get something ratified that you give up something to get something.
J
22:37José NúñezHOST
I'm more interested actually about intra-league sales where clubs don't get outside of the country get zero dollars on sell-ons like i think of uh half a navajo half a navajo gets you know a 12 million dollar moves he and his uh you know team meaning him and his agent get a cool 1.2 million because they get 10 of the sale no matter what but then palmeras gets zero dollars on a 12 million dollar transfer Some of these foreign countries have to be thinking to themselves, what the hell is this all about? Though you could argue that maybe they've already been peeved because of damn trades in the past, right? So I wonder if there is something written.
J
23:21José NúñezHOST
As far as I know, I don't think so.
J

I asked somebody and they think that maybe there's something, but they can't fully confirm that there is something.
September 6, 2026: He's In Your Head
R
9:48RyanHOST
And NSC created some terrific opportunities in the first half.
R
9:52RyanHOST
Hany Mukhtar crossed a beautiful pass to Super Sam in the 24th minute and Surge's header just missed the right corner of the NYC goal.
R
10:00RyanHOST
But the even better chance came in the 43rd minute when NYC and U.S. national team keeper Matt Freese flubbed the ball right in front of Christian Espinosa, tapped it over to Hany Mukhtar, who was only five or six yards in front of the goal, and no one was there to defend.
R
10:16RyanHOST
Mukhtar one-touched his shot, but it hit the crossbar and preserved the scoreless tie.
R
10:23RyanHOST
And the game held there throughout to the final whistle, no goals on the scoreboard, and a point on the road for the league-leading Nashville.
19 MINS LATER
R

Interesting.
R
29:29RyanHOST
I don't mind it so much.
R
29:31RyanHOST
It is Hany Mukhtar that he's passing to.
The transfer window closes, NYCFC draws again before Nashville test
J

They have Sam Surridge, who's on 13 goals this season.
J
70:52John BehneyHOST
They have Hany Mukhtar, who's on 10 goals and 6 assists, former MVP in this league.
J
70:56John BehneyHOST
And then Christian Espinosa, the guy I just mentioned, coming over from San Jose on 9 assists already this year, leading the team, leading Nashville, 3 goals, 9 assists.
J
71:05John BehneyHOST
And on top of that, they have the best defense in the league.
J
71:36John BehneyHOST
Reid Baker Whiting came over from Seattle, a young player, good get, and Andy Nahar has been in MLS for a while now and a really good fullback, a goal of three assists for him.
J
71:44John BehneyHOST
They play a flat 4-4-2, but they get creativity from their wide players, and they just got two game changers up top.
J
71:51John BehneyHOST
in Sam Surge and Hany Mukhtar and when you have that it allows them to play as with defensive solidity in mind and not leave too many gaps because they know they don't need to just chuck bodies forward because they have so much talent in those areas already on a tight Yankee Stadium pitch I actually think that plays against NYCFC in this case because if you got two banks of a really well-organized two banks of four that BJ Callahan's gonna be rolling out And those difference makers in attack, I just think there's going to be so little room for NYCFC to operate in.
J
72:21John BehneyHOST
So this is a brutal matchup at a brutal time.
