Uh, in, I think it was 2018, a law enforcement source of mine told me about the Stephen Smith case.

And because it was something that happened, Stephen Smith was a gay teenager who was found, uh, what seemed like bludgeoned to death in the middle of a highway in Hampton County, in this c- uh, town called Barnville.

And he was very familiar with the Murdochs and friends with them, in fact, and he just was upset.

He was like, "They're gonna get away with it." And he had heard that they were connected to it.

Back in 2024, Buster sued several media companies over documentaries about his family that discussed the still-unsolved death of Stephen Smith.

Stephen was just 19 years old when his body was found in the middle of a rural road in Hampton County in July of 2015.

Over the years, rumors circulated about a possible connection between Stephen and the Murdaugh family, and specifically Buster.

But Buster has repeatedly and emphatically denied having anything to do with Stephen’s death, and importantly, he has never been charged or even publicly named as a suspect by law enforcement.

further this ruling is supported by the court's recent order in beach v parker that i just read yesterday that judge kelly i was interested in his order i did go read it um There, the court found that the moving party made an affirmative showing that a fair and impartial trial could not be had in Hampton County due to the extraordinary pretrial publicity and the surrounding litigation.

The court concluded, other than publicity, the settlement of the wrongful death action, the criminal prosecution of Mr. Murdoch, the defendant in this case, including his reversal.

Buster Murdoch's I think Netflix in regards to the Netflix documentary is a defamation case that has all the motions to dismiss filed by Netflix and related parties.

Been denied.

So right now it's going to stay in state court and proceed in Hampton County.

And then we just scaled.

The defense pointed to a ruling from August 12th, though.

A judge moved a civil lawsuit between Mallory Beach's estate and Parker's Kitchen chain out of Hampton County and into Spartanburg County.

Hampton County sits in the same judicial circuit.

The defense argued that ruling supports the same conclusion, the fourteenth circuit can't deliver a fair trial.
