Area residents recognized for baking, photography, and other creative talents.

Hamburg, New York, from prize-winning pies and breads to photographs that caught a judge's eye, residents from across the region brought home top honors from the 2026 Erie County Fair's competitive exhibits.

Exhibitors from Alden, Alma, West Falls, and South Wales were among those recognized with some of their fair's highest awards and competitions, celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and culinary skill.

In Alden, Cindy Lueke earned a tricolor award for pie baking in the culinary arts competition.

Luke Draper was by turns grocer, tavern keeper, and farmer, and as soon as his son Lyman could be of use about the house, the store, or the land, he was obliged to perform his full share of family labor.

Until 15 years of age, the boys' experiences were those of the average village lad of the period.

Volunteers are certified by the IRS and a time commitment is two days per week during tax season.

During tax filing season, February through April, the volunteers will assist taxpayers at local sites in the towns of Aurora, West Seneca, and Hamburg.

While many in attendance asked, Why this location for a project like this? Kauffman said the site provides limited frontage, a narrow buildable strip between the two railroads, and immediate access to the distribution line.

The site is also mostly flat and features no wetlands.

Board officially throws support behind Roundabout project.

The Hamburg Village Board has officially announced its support for the New York State Department of Transportation project that would change the signalized intersection at Main Street, Pierce Avenue, Lake Street, and South Lake Street to a roundabout.

The board adopted a resolution on August 17th in favor of what the DOT has proposed.

a beautiful sunny day jim kelly field becomes latest new amenity at alumni park it came as a surprise to legendary buffalo bills quarterback jim kelly but he could not be happier about it alumni park a three acre pocket park at the corner of big tree and parker roads in the town of hamburg now has a turf flag football field that's been added to it And that field in the shadow of Highmark Stadium now bears the name of the renowned signal caller, Mr. Kelly.

Mr. Kelly said he had no idea about this field, who was joined by family members, Bills alumni, town officials, and hundreds of flag football players on August 18th for an official dedication ceremony at the park.

Kelly said he found out about it four days ago when Ed Rakowski, a member of the Hamburg Vision Committee, formerly a county executive of Erie County and a former football player for the Buffalo Bills in the late 60s, early 70s, Rakowski told Kelly to meet him over there.

So Kelly said, I saw all these workers and I saw the logo and said, what the heck is this? I was surprised, but I want to thank everyone so much for this honor.

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, Republican conservative from Elma, is urging residents in nine towns in southern Erie County to cooperate with officials from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, DEC, and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, as their investigation of possible radiological contamination in western New York continues.

DEC and EPA agents plan to visit the towns of Aurora, Boston, Brant, Concord, Eden, Evans, Hamburg, Marilla, and Orchard Park to test for elevated levels of radiation.

The field tests are a follow-up to aerial surveys conducted throughout the region.

The agency will not enter private property or conduct testing unless the owners give them permission.
